it’s here! {HOLLY JOLLY} Christmas Altered Book!

it’s FINALLY done! and just like Santa, this one is FAT!

i’ve just finished putting the finishing touches on the Christmas Altered Book - {Holly Jolly}. i pulled a LOT of goodies for this book and BELIEVE me, i tried my best to cram as many of them in as i could! papers by Graphic 45twas the night before christmas.

if you are wanting a “skinny” santa book, then skip this class. but if you like your book like “fat” santa, then you DEFINITELY want to sign up! i raided my VAST vintage Christmas stash and have included lots of little treasures and trinkets. some of the original items you get include: a 20′s feather tree mercury glass miniature ornament, a vintage christmas postcard – most date from 1900 to 1910, a cute plastic glitter bell from the 5o’s, christmas seals from the 30′s-50′s, silver foil bell seals from the 30′s and vintage ornament hooks from the 30′s-40′s. this book is like an overstuffed stocking!

here’s pics of the book…

book cover and side views

and here is a collage of closeups pics of some of the details…

thoughts on upcoming altered books…

i’ve been checking out new paper lines and considering them for upcoming altered book classes.

one subject that keeps being requested is pet, so i was excited to hear about g45′s new Raining Cats and Dogs collection – and i love it – and the colors are great for most pets – BUT…

and there is a but, i think this collection would work well for people with both cats and dogs. i don’t think it would work for those who are strictly dog or strictly cat people. the papers feature both dogs and cats together, there isn’t “cat” paper and “dog” paper. so unfortunately, i will still be hunting for a pet collection to use. if you see one you like, drop me a note and i’ll check it out.

as for christmas, since there seemed to be enough interest for both a halloween AND christmas book this year. again, i was both excited by and a little disappointed by g45′s twas the night before christmas collection. there are only 8 papers instead of the usual 12 in the collection, and although i love the colors, and the more 50′s style santa {that is my FAVORITE decade for the vintage christmas goodies i collect), i’m just not sure there is enough paper choices. but i DO have tons and TONS of vintage christmas, so i may be able to supplement with ephemera that i have. i am going to print of swatches and sit down and play with it. i would like to use it as it would have a very different look from the other christmas books we’ve done so far. if you have an opinion on this collection – i’d love to hear it. i don’t believe authentique has released a new christmas collection yet – they are another company i like to work with.

other suggested subjects are: family, recipe and texas – at least those are the requests i get most often. if you have some suggestions for themes, please let me hear them!

off to bed, it’s been a LONG WEEK and i have a LOT of work to do this weekend – including an altered book to finish :)

fair warning…

you GALS are CRAZY!

the sign ups for EERILY ENCHANTED, my halloween altered book have been coming in fast and furious – even before i’ve completed the sample book!

i spoke to susan today, and there are 18 people already signed up! AMAZING!

so… if you want to take this class, PLEASE sign up SOON!

there are 21 seats, and i can do 3 kits, so 24 books total!

thanks for the TREMENDOUS support of my altered book classes. i appreciate it, and it is SO helpful to have you sign up quick so i can start prep early.

i am hoping to finish the book up this weekend. i’ll try to post more progress photos and of course, the collage of the book when it is done.

thanks again,

“by the sea” frame and book classes this saturday…

thank you EVERYONE who signed up for either or both of my “by the sea” classes at scrapbook n’ more this saturday!!!

i was REALLY, REALLY overwhelmed by the interest in these classes. they have already “filled” several times – i added spots as i could when i was able to round up more supplies.

i am sorting, cutting, bagging and frantically putting together the kits this week and i think i will be able to squeeze just a FEW more spots in each of these classes.

SO if you wanted to take either one of these classes PLEASE call scrapbook n’ more and get on the waitlist.

i am also prepping to start working on the halloween altered book using G45′s EERIE TALES collection. i am hoping to have the sample done by saturday, but i’m not sure if i can get it done by then or not – fingers crossed!

life has been a little more hectic than usual lately, including having to deal with our a/c on the fritz and the hvac guys not being able to figure out what is wrong. it was 90 degrees in the house the other day while i was trying to put together class kits. i had to pack up and move in with mom for a few days. and i also discovered $200+ in fraudulent charges to my Old Navy card! ladies, if you have one, go check your account. ON had a security breach awhile back and i guess someone got my info.

i’ll keep you posted as to the status of the halloween book. susan is accepting sign ups at the store for the class. it is scheduled for 8/2 and the cost will be $65.

thanks! i appreciate the continued interest in these book classes..

{fashionistas} layout

hi all!

i have a project featured on the Clearsnap website this month!

it is a scrapbook page entitled “fashionistas” and was designed around a great vintage photo of my aunt and two friends.

the layout uses ColorBox® Graphic45 Decades Dye Inks and G45 stamps from Hampton Art as well as some trinkets from my vintage stash. if you are a G45 paper lover, you are going to LOVE the Decades Dye Inks as they are made to match some of the major colors in G45 papers!

here is a snippet of the layout…

“christmas spirit” altered book sneak peek!

i’ve been busy finishing up the sample for the second christmas-themed book in my series of altered books…

i’d received numerous requests to do another christmas book by those who missed out on the first book or who wanted to do another christmas book – so i HOPE all of you who asked for this class, like the design and will SIGN UP! LOL!

a date has not yet been set, but i’ll be adding that info to my blog and sending out an e-mail as soon as its available.

here’s a quick look at some of the design elements…

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

i added a lot of new and different elements to this book, so if you have taken one or more of my altered book classes, you’ll be able to build onto your  repertoire of tricks and techniques in creating your own altered books.

there are lots of little pockets and flaps to slip little notes and such in; wish lists, shopping lists, receipts – things that might be fun to look back on after a few years. and of course there are places for christmas photos – under the tree, christmas morning, visits with santa, christmas decorations – all would be great.

the papers used are all from Graphic 45′s new Christmas Emporium line. also used are lots of Clearsnap products: Smooch Spritz, Smooch Accent Ink, Chalk Inks and Fairy Dust Glitter. stamps and inks are from Hampton Art, the matching G45 Christmas Emporium Cling Stamps and the brand new ColorBox Decades Antiquing Inks.

and LOTS, and LOTS of vintage and not-so-vintage goodies from my stash! baker’s twine, velvet flowers and leaves, ribbons, pine brances, garland, mini ornaments, tiny bells and safety pins, holly and MORE!

Grande Dame

I’d like to share a project with you today…

This project is very special to me because it celebrates the life of my Grandmother, Merle Virginia focusing on my favorite picture of her, which was taken in the early 1920′s.

My Gram lived to be 101 years old and held on to her wish to be able to stay in her own home til the end, she was one tough lady.

She used to tell me stories about her mother playing the organ and piano to accompany the silent movies in the theatre, so that was the inspiration for the piece.

This altered frame incorporates papers from Graphic 45, stamps and Spritz Screens from Hampton Arts featuring G45 designs and LOTS of Clearsnap products. Also included are bits and pieces of vintage “junque” that I have accumulated through trips to flea markets and estate sales.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The base of the project is an MDF frame which was flat on the front and resembled a shadowbox on the back. I thought the back was much more interesting than the front, so I used the backside of the frame to build this piece.

If you have someone who is close to your heart that you would like to honor with a similar project, here are s few tips:

  • start by listing things that were unique to them
  • gather memorabilia, cards or letters, and vintage bits that relate to them
  • decide on a color scheme and gather papers, inks and embellishments in those colors
  • select stamps to use as backgrounds and accents that will compliment your project
  • CREATE!

The “create” part should be the enjoyable part, give yourself permission to play and experiment. Relax and let the memories of your special someone inspire you.

Here is a list of Clearsnap products that were used to create my project:

Smooch Spritz: Log Cabin, Gold Glow, Caramel Latte, Tea Party and Vanilla Shimmer

Smooch: Shabby Pink, Mocha, Lettuce, Banana Custard, Snickerdoodle, Moonlight, Silver Fox, Olive Twist, Gold Lame’ and Taffy

ColorBox Archival Dye Ink: Mudslide, Cookie Dough, Putty and Mermaid

ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink: Chestnut Roan

ColorBox Pigment Ink: Dragonfly Black

Fairy Dust Glitter: Pralines & Cream

Top Boss Embossing Powder: Opalescent Clear

Glue Gloss

auction!

SCRAPBOOK 911 is having an auction to benefit GUIDE DOGS OF TEXAS

staff, instructors and customers have donated handmade items to be auctioned off by silent auction with all proceeds to be donated to Guide Dogs of Texas.

the auction will officially kick off this weekend during the annual “Shirley” crop. but some of the items are already out and getting bids!

there are some pretty terrific items, several mini books, some great Christmas items, and i also noticed several pieces of jewelry.

i made a “dates to remember” book as my donation…

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

there is a page for each month that you can list all your important dates on: birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

then there are pages for notes for each month, you can list gift ideas, shopping lists, or any other notes that would be helpful. each set of note pages also doubles as a pocket. so you have a handy place to tuck any receipts, or business cards, or any other info that you need to keep handy.

the book uses papers from Graphic 45′s new Steampunk Debutante line and from Teresa Collin’s new Giving Thanks line.

So make sure you go by the store soon to check out all the auction items and to bid on any that catch your eye. i also heard that jennie would be listing the auction items on the web, so you may be able to bid that way as well. check the Scrapbook 911 blog for details on that.

—and REMEMBER, the proceeds benefit the Guide Dogs of Texas, a VERY worthy organization so PLEASE bid generously! {and you can take it as a tax deduction :)}

father’s day altered book…

i have added another altered book to my class schedule…

i will be teaching an altered book class with a father’s day theme at STAMP ANTONIO on may 22. i used papers and embellishments from GRAPHIC 45′s A PROPER GENTLEMAN collection. i’ve also searched my vintage stash for some “manly” items to add…

space for this class will be very limited, so please call early to sign up if you are interested.
