now, on to the project! Scor-Pal is a quick and easy way to score any of your paper projects that need to be folded and/or creased: cards, mini books, boxes and MORE!

i wanted to see what other uses i could find for it. i like to add texture to my projects, and pleating is VERY popular right now. so i thought i’d try and use the Scor-Pal to add some interesting dimension to my 1 Hot Summer Journal project…

i thought it might be fun to try to make my own plaid paper using the Scor-Pal. so i first spritzed cardstock with some Gold Glow Smooch Spritz as a base color {i started with a 12 X 12 piece, then cropped to 8 X 8; reserve extra for use below}. and then to pleat, i scored the cardstock at 1/4″, then 3/4″, then 1″, then 1 1/2″, etc; this creates a pattern of 1/4″ sections separated by 1/2″ sections. when you pleat the paper, you’ll have sections that will be “hidden” when you spray on a second color and those areas will remain the base color…

to hold the pleats together while you spray the paper, use the Scor-Tape along the short sides. just apply a strip to each side, then remove the backing and stick the pleated paper to a piece of scrap paper {the tape will release easily by heating it a bit with a heat gun, or using undu}….

once the paper is pleated and secured to a scrap paper, place in the Color Catcher and spritz with Carrot Cake Smooch Spritz

let the paper dry, or speed up dry time with a heat gun. remove tape and here’s what you’ve created…

next iron your paper flat – or as flat as you can get it, then score and fold it the other way. tape and spritz the same as before, this time using Citrus Tickle Smooch Spritz. unfold and iron and here’s your plaid!

to create the sun, i pleated some of the leftover Gold Glow spritzed paper using the same 1/4″, then 1/2″, then 1/4″ scores, pleated it up, then taped it on the back in several places. then i adhered it to a scrap of cardstock, and traced and cut out a circle. since i had the Scor-Tape handy, it’s center circle looked just right!

for the rays, i thought a little “diagonal” might be fun! so i used the Scor-Tape to adhere the other leftover piece of Gold Glow cardstock to my Scor-Pal{don’t worry, the tape will come up! just use a little undu to clean if needed}…

then i used the same scoring pattern and pleated, taped and sprayed as before using Carrot Cake Smooch Spritz. once the piece was dry, i cut it into 1/4″ and 1/2″ strips, then tore off pieces and attached them to the back of the sun using Scor-Tape

for the waves, i spritzed some kraft cardstock with Sea Kiss and Ice Rink Smooch Spritz. i stamped “SUMMER” {My Sentiments Exactly: School Days Upper} on one strip, then they were ready to layer on the cover…

for the “1 hot”, i first scored a scrap piece of kraft paper at 1/8″ intervals both vertically and horizontally across, then i drew and cut out the “1″. it was then inked with Orange Pigment Ink, i also used a Stylus and a Blender Tip to apply a bit of Leather Mix’d Media Inx over it to bring out the creases. this same technique and ink was used to age and antique all the other pieces as well. the “hot” {My Sentiments Exactly: School Days Lower/Numbers} was stamped using the Leather Mix’d Media Inx and then, before it dried completely, i streaked on a bit of Marigold and Orange Pigment Inks, applied using the Stylus and a Blender Tip to create some “heat waves”…

to assemble the book, i cut 2 – 8 1/2 X 8″ pieces of kraft cardstock and scored them at 1/2″ along the left short side. then i cut filler paper to fit inside the book, using the holes that were on it. mark the holes in the scored tab area of the covers, punch, stack pieces and thread with jute; tie ends in a bow towards bottom third.

to embellish cover, tear plaid piece around all edges, and adhere to front. then adhere waves, using 3D Foam Squares to adhere “Summer” stamped piece at bottom. use 3D Foam Squares to adhere sun at upper left, then use more 3D Foam Squares to adhere “1 hot” at center of sun.

use the book to add photos and notes about YOUR summer…

i printed my photo on a piece of text weight speckled tan paper, then tore around the edges. i also used INK to emphasize some of the words — Aqua Pigment Ink for “COOL”, and Orange Pigment Ink for “Scorching”.

i hope you enjoyed this project and found a few new techniques to try using your Scor-Pal.

i also hope you are having a good time on this bLoG hOp; there are still a few more stops for you to make before you are done! Your next destination is at awesome Clearsnap Designer Robyn Weatherspoon’s blog.

CHA Sneak Peek… Reminisce introduces… HARVEST

REMINISCE has started their CHA Sneak Peeks!!!

they will be introducing a new line {or lines!} each day this week!

and… they are giving away packs of the NEW lines BEFORE you can even buy them! all you have to do is go to the REMINISCE BLOG and post a comment under the new release you’d like to win! which i think would be ALL OF THEM!

they are kicking off the peeks with the new HARVEST line; which is just gorgeous. think off all the colors you associate with fall and you’ll find them there in soft sophisticated designs. i think you’ll be surprised by this line as well as several of the other new lines coming out as they are all a new look from Reminisce!

the project featured today using the Harvest line, is a table setting that i did…

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

the pumpkins are made like the old honeycomb decorations. i made a template for half the pumpkin first from chipboard. then cut and folded 5 different papers in half, traced the pumpkin on them – with the center aligned on the fold, then cut them out. i also cut one piece just to fit the template. then the folded pieces were glued back to back, one on top of each. the extra paper half was glued to the template, and then that piece was glued on top of the stack. then, when you bring the back piece around to meet the front piece it forms a pumpkin! i punched holes in the chipboard lined piece and the last piece and tied ribbons through the holes to hold the pumpkin open. the stems were cut from kraft cardstock that i stamped first, then i inked the edges. the vines were made from border stickers adhered back to back and twisted around a small dowel. a small slit, about 1″ – 1 1/2″ was cut up the center at the bottom of each stem so it could slide on the pumpkin. since the pieces fold up, you can easily store them without damage til next year!

the napkin rings/placecard holders were really easy to make. i just folded pieces of cardstock in half to make “tents”. then cut pieces of printed paper to adhere to each side. then a hole was punched at the sides of each placecard, punching one layer at a time. then, i just decorated with more printed paper, stickers and a bit of jute.

i used ColorBox Fluid Chalk ink in Chestnut Roan to stamp and distress with.

i hope you enjoyed this project, and please, don’t forget to check out the REMINISCE BLOG each day this week and get signed up to WIN the new lines!!!

ckc houston…

i am wrapping up all the prep for my 2 classes at CKC Houston

thanks to lori and tinka for their help in getting things ready! i’ve got all the class kits bagged up,  all the supplies are lined up {well almost}, and i’m trying to finish all the last minute little details.

i’ve had months to get ready – and it seems like it has TAKEN months to get ready, but it’s finally almost here! we leave thursday morning for houston; we’ll stop and shop along the way. then friday morning – bright and early – i’ll have my first class!

there were a lot of great classes offered and i couldn’t resist signing up for a few, and tinka, laura and i also signed up for the friday nite CKC crop so we could get a little scrapp’n in.

registration has closed, but you can still sign up for classes and crops once you get to CKC, so you might want to check out what’s offered. my friend charlotte always takes the QUICK QUOTES classes and says they are always great! she likes the SEI classes too, and i’ve enjoyed the one’s of theirs that i have taken.

the classes i’ll be teaching are:

PHOTOFULL LAYOUTS:

in this class you’ll get to make 2 – 2 page layout. each has a different technique to get MORE photos on your pages. the techniques are easy to learn and to do, so you’ll be able to incorporate them into your own layouts as well.

the “LIFE IS GOOD” MINI ALBUM is my other class…

you’ll get 3 sets of stickers and 1 set of cardstock stickers, a $13.00 value, to use to complete your mini book. this book features papers and embellishments from Reminisce’s Unwritten line. the colors are vintage-bright, and will compliment the photos you use in your book.

i hope to see some of you in houston; i’m looking forward to it!

4th of july layouts…

i did 2 sample layouts for SCRAPBOOK 911 for 4th of july that i wanted to share…

this one uses the brand spanking new STARS & STRIPES collection by REMINISCE

that’s charlotte’s kiddos – lulu and tony in the photos! thanks charlotte!

and this layout features the new Starlight collection by Pink Paislee…

sorry the photos aren’t better – i usually like to bring the layouts home and scan them so they look NICE and BRIGHT. but since it was so close to the 4th already, i didn’t want to take them down to do that! if you like either of these layouts, SCRAPBOOK 911 has BOTH collections in stock. {and PSST! they are having a BIG sale on july 3rd, so you can get 30% off all the papers and supplies you need to make them!}

mom & me pj crop…

i just noticed that the mom & me pj crop at SCRAPBOOK 911 was not on their web calendar, i’m not sure if it is on the paper calendar or not.  i apologize for not catching that sooner, but i DID want to let anyone who was interested know that we WILL be having the pj crop so PLEASE sign up if you’d like to come and crop with your child{ren}! it will be on thursday, july 8th from 5 to 9.  snacks are included {but dinner isn’t so please eat before you come or bring something with you!} the crop is priced at just $5 per person. moms must stay, and they can bring as many kids as they can supervise! so your kids can invite friends to crop with them if they like.

the wearing of your PJ’s is optional, but we sure had a lot of fun cropping in our jammies last month, here’s some photos…

there are also 2 other mom & me classes coming up in july:

first up is the “regular” mom & me class on saturday, july 10th from 10:00 to noon. you and your child will work together to make a set of card for various occasions.  they will be SO proud to give these cards because they made them themselves!

then, on  tuesday, july 20th  from 10:30 to 12:30 will be mom & me “our day out”. “our day out” is a special class for summer; by special request from the KIDS! BOTH you and your child will EACH have your OWN project to work on for ONE low price! this month, the kids will be making an altered composition book…

while the moms will be making a summer themed 2 page layout…

please e-mail me if you have any questions about any of these special “kid” classes!

woof!

i did this sample layout for SCRAPBOOK 911 using the new MAX & WHISKERS and BASICS lines by Basic Grey…

we only have a guinea pig, no dogs or cats – but i really LOVED the colors in this line! i bought most of them – that didn’t have dog or cat designs – because the colors were great. having 2 boys, it’s sometimes hard to find papers with “boy colors”.

i’m also a HUGE fan of the new Basics line. i am a sucker for office supplies, so i had to have it ALL!

new webster’s pages…

SCRAPBOOK 911 got in several of the NEW Webster’s Pages lines and they were SO pretty, i just had to play with them!

i did this sample layout using papers and embellishments from Lullaby Lane and Life’s Portrait lines…

i love cutting little bits out of printed papers and collaging them, and these lines are perfect to do that with. i added some of the cute Bloomer trim in the bottom right of the layout – they look like pretty roses – when they don’t get smashed on a scanner!

i think these papers and embellishments would be beautiful for heritage pages or even sweet pics of your favorite little girl. there are lots of ways to mix and match the double sided papers.

i did use the distress stickles in rock candy on some of the flowers, butterflies and accents, but it doesn’t really show up in the photos.

most of the details don’t show up real well in the layout view either, so here are a few close-ups…

i cut out this motif from a printed paper, and also cut out the border and butterfly that accent it. i used the border as kind of a “signpost” to place all the tiny stickers on – i LOVE those!

this close-up shows the rose panel piece complete with “chandelier” that i cut out and slid under the diecut paper. the cut out “completes” a similar design on the die cut paper and makes it look like the roses came under the border.

here, another piece of that rose paper repeats and echoes the pattern again. and the peach roses from the bloomers trim are in the bottom corner – but they were SQUISHED when i scanned the page. I also cut along the scroll design in order to slip the photo mat ends behind it.

and here,  you can see where i cut along the scroll pattern so that i could slip the edge of the diecut paper behind it. i also cut out the roses in the corner and added them on 3D dots.

tfl!

REMINISCE recently asked the design team members to come up with some layouts using the REAL SPORTS line…

here’s a few i did…

the first 3 layouts are 6 X 6 and the last one is 12 X 12 {thanks sandee for the football pic!}.

if you have an athletic child or a sports minded hubbie, you should check out this line for any sports-themed layouts. they have papers and great embellishments for lots of different sports, and the colors really set off the colors in your photos.
