ckc houston…

i am wrapping up all the prep for my 2 classes at CKC Houston

thanks to lori and tinka for their help in getting things ready! i’ve got all the class kits bagged up,  all the supplies are lined up {well almost}, and i’m trying to finish all the last minute little details.

i’ve had months to get ready – and it seems like it has TAKEN months to get ready, but it’s finally almost here! we leave thursday morning for houston; we’ll stop and shop along the way. then friday morning – bright and early – i’ll have my first class!

there were a lot of great classes offered and i couldn’t resist signing up for a few, and tinka, laura and i also signed up for the friday nite CKC crop so we could get a little scrapp’n in.

registration has closed, but you can still sign up for classes and crops once you get to CKC, so you might want to check out what’s offered. my friend charlotte always takes the QUICK QUOTES classes and says they are always great! she likes the SEI classes too, and i’ve enjoyed the one’s of theirs that i have taken.

the classes i’ll be teaching are:

PHOTOFULL LAYOUTS:

in this class you’ll get to make 2 – 2 page layout. each has a different technique to get MORE photos on your pages. the techniques are easy to learn and to do, so you’ll be able to incorporate them into your own layouts as well.

the “LIFE IS GOOD” MINI ALBUM is my other class…

you’ll get 3 sets of stickers and 1 set of cardstock stickers, a $13.00 value, to use to complete your mini book. this book features papers and embellishments from Reminisce’s Unwritten line. the colors are vintage-bright, and will compliment the photos you use in your book.

i hope to see some of you in houston; i’m looking forward to it!

monday classes…

this monday, july 12th, i’ll have a TRI-fecta of classes! due to the 4th of july holiday and the CKC convention prep, all 3 of my regular monday classes will be held on the same day.

SKETCH & CROP will be first, from 10:00 to 12:30. in this class i’ll provide you with the sketch and you’ll make a 2 page layout using it. here’s a little peek at the layout…

then MONEY $AVING $KETCHES will be from 2:00 to 4:00. i provide you with TWO sketches for this class, you’ll make 1 – 2 page layout then use the leftover supplies from that layout to create another 2 page layout. this class is ALL about learning how to really STRETCH your scrapbook supplies to get the most bang for you $$$.

here’s a snippet of one of the layouts…

THEN, from 6:30 to 8:30 it is time for PHOTO-FULL. if you have STACKS of photos that you have been putting off scrapping because you have TOO many photos of the event – Christmas, birthdays, easter, weddings, etc. then you NEED to come to this class. in each class, i’ll prepare a layout for you to copy using papers of your choice that will give you LOTS of space for your photos. each 2 page layout will hold at least 15 or MORE photos – and most of the photos will be LARGE – not cropped down to teeny-tiny. you’ll learn to use flips, folds and pullouts to add MORE space for YOUR photos. and this month’s Photo-full class is a BIGGIE, i got 32 photos on my 2 page layout!

here’s a sneak at the layout…

you will need to bring your own papers or plan to purchase some at Scrapbook 911 for the SKETCH & CROP and MONEY $AVING $KETCHES class, but supplies are INCLUDED for the PHOTO-FULL class.

also, at the last month’s sketch and crop, the ladies suggested that we do a pot luck lunch since several of them planned to stay for 2 or all 3 of the classes. so if you are coming to either or both of the morning classes and would like to, please bring a covered dish and plan to eat with us from 12:30 to 2:00. but PLEASE do NOT feel like you have to bring something! you’ll be welcome to eat with us whether or not you brought a dish or not!

i hope to see you at one of these classes, it should be a very fun and productive day; a chance to get a LOT of layouts DONE!

upcoming classes…

i have been neglecting adding my class info to my blog as of late. i didn’t realize how far behind i was until i noticed that the last classes i listed were in february! i am usually pretty good at keeping that info current!

so, i have now updated my classes until the end of april! here’s a peek at what’s coming up…

mom & me classes:

i am thrilled with the response to this class; it continues to grow and we are adding new little scrappers each and every month. i decided to try some classes during spring break, we had the first of 2 classes today – a “spring is in the air” paper bag mini album. the kids had a great time learning how to turn plain lunch bags into a cute little mini album that they embellished with paper and stamps. i think they enjoyed the stamping the most! the next class will be THURSDAY, MARCH 18, the project will be “MY FAVORITES”, recipe holder…

then, on SATURDAY, MARCH 27, we’ll have both a morning and afternoon class where we’ll be making a mini album shaped like a basket for Easter…

in april, we’ll be doing a fiesta-inspired project; on SATURDAY, APRIL 3, we’ll be turning a plain white box into a ”MI FAMILIA” shadowbox, where you can display a family photo {maybe from FIESTA!}. the kids will be learning several new techniques in this class; one of which is how to turn a piece of plain embossed cardstock into a Mexican pottery-inspired “printed paper”. most Mexican handcrafts begin as some sort of material that would have been otherwise thrown away. so we’ll be using that same principal to turn cast-offs into a piece of art! {one of the reasons the class is priced so LOW this time ;) }

book classes:

i have 2 book classes coming up and they are both on the same day – but at 2 different stores!

the date is SATURDAY, APRIL 10…

first, i’ll be at SCRAPBOOK 911 to teach my “BLESSINGS BOOK” from 10:00 to 1:30. this book features lots of pockets {hidden and otherwise} and lots of journaling spots so that you can record all the good things that happen to you! you can also tuck clippings, letters or notes that you find inspirational. then, when you need a little “lift”, you can pull out your book and remember all those good little bits and words! this book would also make a thoughtful gift for mother’s day, or for a friend or relative that might need a little BOOST!

then, i’ll be packing up and heading over to STAMP ANTONIO from 3:30 to 6:00 for my “MOTHER’S DAY MINI BOOK”. this sweet little 6 X 6 mini book features handmade, lace trimmed canvas covers {made by yours truly}. you’ll learn how to distress the canvas with paint and inks and we’ll also be collaging on it to create our front cover. the pages will be embellished with printed papers and ephemera by GECKO GALS {formerly HARLEE QUINNZ}. i’ll also be teaching you how to use SMOOCH accent inks on your stamps to create beautiful, shimmery “watercolor” images. the featured stamp set we will use is also by GECKO GALZ.

layout classes:

my daytime classes – SKETCH and CROP and MONEY $AVING $KETCHES, both include a sketch {a drawing of a layout} that include as many larger-size {3 X 5 – 4 X 6} photos that i can figure out how to put on them! most sketch books don’t include layouts with more that 3 or 4 – 4 X 6 photos, most have photos that have to be cropped WAY down. i try to provide you with sketches that work for the layouts YOU want to do – LOTS of photos!

for both classes, you need to bring photos so you can select papers to go with them, OR you can bring your own papers and cardstock with you to do the layouts with.m {the $8 class fee for both of these classes does not cover supplies}.

in SKETCH and CROP, you’ll get one sketch that you can copy as many times as you like in this 4 hour class. you can also bring other projects that you might need help on, we usually spend the first 2 hours doing the first sketch, then after that, you can crop – with me to assist if you need it – for the rest of the class.

in MONEY $AVING $KETCHES, you’ll get TWO sketches! we’ll make the first one, then use the leftovers {along with a few more pieces of cardstock} to create another whole layout!

in each class, you’ll get a copy of the sketch with all the dimensions, directions, and sample photos to keep and use over and over again. we have a lot of fun in these daytime classes, and the ladies GET THINGS DONE! most leave with several layouts FINISHED!

evening class – PHOTOFULL, in this class we concentrate on how to scrap those events with LOTS of photos; birthdays, Christmas, Easter, etc. in each class, i create a 2-page layout with some type of flip, fold, pocket, etc. that will allow you to get 12+ photos – FULL SIZE photos on it! we usually get MORE than 12, 18 is about average! so if you have some BIG stacks of photos to scrap, you need to come and try out this class! most students leave with their layouts 80-100% DONE! be sure to bring your photos so you can select your papers to match. supplies ARE included in this class.

well, that’s about it for now! i think i’m up to date now!

thank all of you for your interest in my classes, i appreciate it!

photos from december mom & me class…

this past saturday i taught not one but TWO sessions of my mom and me class, and let me TELL YOU! this could be a new workout routine! LOL!

i felt like a juggler trying to keep about a dozen balls up in the air! keeping the kids busy and engaged was a little challenging this month as there was a lot of different parts to the project. this was the FIRST time we’ve done a lot of stamping on our project. we did a little bit of stamping with foam stamps last month, but THIS month, they had to stamp on several pages in their mini books. they also got to play with the Rollagraph stamps, which they enjoyed a LOT. they rolled on borders on the blank pages in their books.

i remembered not only my camera this month, but to actually TAKE the pictures as well! here’s some shots from the class:

i will be teaching 2 mom and me classes in january, and will be teaching both a morning and afternoon session for each. the first class will be on january 9th… we’ll be making a 6 X 6 mini album that will hold layouts of all the major holidays as well as a birthday layout. we’ll do 9 two page layouts and 2 single page layouts. your child will be ALL ready to add photos throughout the year to their “MY YEAR” mini book. don’t worry about it being too much for them to do though, all the pieces will be precut and ready to go! they’ll be able to decorate the diecuts on each page too.

the second class will be a project for valentine’s day. i found these BIG brass keys at an estate sale and decided they would be perfect to use for a “key to my heart” decor project. i haven’t finished it yet, but i’ll post a pic on the SB911 calendar when i do!

if you are intersted in either of these classes, PLEASE sign up early. i only have a limited number of materials for each class and won’t be able to get more! i have 12 spaces in EACH session – morning and afternoon – for both of these classes. i think there are only 2 spots left for the “my year” mini book.

thanks SO much for all of the interest in this class! it is a BLAST to teach it, and i love watching the kids get CREATIVE {and hopefully a little messy}!

new PASSPORTS line by REMINISCE…

have you ever wished you could find paper and stickers for a special trip you took – to a city, an area, a state, how about a country?

well wish no more! REMINISCE has just introduced a new line called PASSPORTS. there are 72 – that is SEVENTY TWO different destinations included in this line! each destination has it’s own two-sided paper and matching sticker sheet.

here’s a layout i did using the CHICAGO paper and stickers…

to create the skyline at the bottom of the layout, i used a craft knife to carefully cut out the skyline on the blue side of the double sided CHICAGO paper. then i backed the space with white cardstock.  I mounted the cut out skyline on a piece of white cardstock and cut it out again, then outlined it using a white gel pen. It has been adhered to the layout using 3D Dots. I moved it down and to the right of where it had been on the paper to create a “shadow” effect.

and, if you don’t happen to travel much, don’t worry, you can still think of fun ways to use this line! we love lots of different ethnic foods, so i decided to create an INTERNATIONAL RECIPE BINDER for some of my favorite recipes. i used the CHINA, INDIA, MEXICO, ITALY, FRANCE and SPAIN papers and stickers…

want more ideas for this line? then head over to the REMINISCE GALLERY and see more projects from the reminisce design team!

want even MORE ideas? then check out the REMINISCE BLOG,  there are some more awesome ideas there too!

2010 calendar kits!

the 2010 calendar kits are FINALLY ready;  i dropped them off at SCRAPBOOK 911 today!

the 6 X 9 calendar is designed to be a “flip style” that sits on a table or desk. the calendar for the current month is on one side {along with a space for notes} and a matching embellished photo mat is on the other. there are pages at the back of the calendar for “notes”, “birthdays” and “dates to remember”.

the calendar is VERY quick and easy to put together {you should be able to complete it in under 3 hours}. almost everything is precut for you and ready to go. the kit includes EVERYTHING you need except a few basic supplies. also included in the kit is a FULL set of chipboard letters! the kit also includes complete directions and photos of the project.

quantities are limited! so when they are gone — they are GONE!

if you are interested in a kit and don’t live near san antonio, don’t worry – you can still purchase one – SCRAPBOOK 911 would be happy to mail you a kit,  just give them a call!

here are some pictures of the completed calendar:

this calendar makes a great gift too!

halloween book…

last christmas, mom asked me to make her an album of the kids in all their halloween costumes. i thought that would be a fun album to put together.

so i gathered up pics of the boys in their spooky finery as well as papers and embellishments in halloween themes or colors {leftover scraps too!}. i decided to do 8 X 8 pages since mom mainly wanted photos of the costumes. i think 8 X 8 is an easy size to work with, and it allows room for embellishment and titles when using a 4 X 6 photo.

I still owe her some pages; i’ll have to dig up some of my earlier halloween photos, but here are the pages that i did for her last christmas…

i bought a black 8 X 8 album and embellished the cover to put them all in. mom was happy with her gift, and i started thinking about making my OWN halloween book!

halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and there are BUNCHES of halloween paper lines and embellishments out there. and it’s a FUN event to scrap too! you can use crazy colors or mix and match paper lines, or distress things to your hearts content! it’s a great time to turn your imagination loose on your pages!
