“christmas spirit” altered book sneak peek!

i’ve been busy finishing up the sample for the second christmas-themed book in my series of altered books…

i’d received numerous requests to do another christmas book by those who missed out on the first book or who wanted to do another christmas book – so i HOPE all of you who asked for this class, like the design and will SIGN UP! LOL!

a date has not yet been set, but i’ll be adding that info to my blog and sending out an e-mail as soon as its available.

here’s a quick look at some of the design elements…

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

i added a lot of new and different elements to this book, so if you have taken one or more of my altered book classes, you’ll be able to build onto your  repertoire of tricks and techniques in creating your own altered books.

there are lots of little pockets and flaps to slip little notes and such in; wish lists, shopping lists, receipts – things that might be fun to look back on after a few years. and of course there are places for christmas photos – under the tree, christmas morning, visits with santa, christmas decorations – all would be great.

the papers used are all from Graphic 45’s new Christmas Emporium line. also used are lots of Clearsnap products: Smooch Spritz, Smooch Accent Ink, Chalk Inks and Fairy Dust Glitter. stamps and inks are from Hampton Art, the matching G45 Christmas Emporium Cling Stamps and the brand new ColorBox Decades Antiquing Inks.

and LOTS, and LOTS of vintage and not-so-vintage goodies from my stash! baker’s twine, velvet flowers and leaves, ribbons, pine brances, garland, mini ornaments, tiny bells and safety pins, holly and MORE!

if you would like to play along, the directions to do so are listed in the post. you can get entered to win a BIG prize pack to be given away each quarter! the more you play, the more chances you have to win!

my project was an altered bangle using the inspirations colors of Lime, Black and White. those of you who know me KNOW i LOVE this color combo!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

the bracelet, from Indus AKA DIY Bangle was first “painted” using Smooch Accent Ink in Moonlight. then, each panel of the pentagon bracelet, was stamped and embossed with Top Boss Black Embossing Powder. and then the designs were filled in using some of my favorite “LIME” inks and Smooch Inks: Smooch in Kiwi and Green Apple and ColorBox Archival Dye Inks in: Grasshopper, Tree Frog and Key Lime Pie. the dye inks were used like watercolors to fill in the designs. the colors are so bright and fresh!

if you aren’t up to a challenge {tee hee}, but would still like to win some Clearsnap goodies… then join in on the race to get to 1500 facebook fans BEFORE CHA starts! all you have to do is “like” Clearsnap on Facebook, then post to the wall with a quick comment and that “Tami Sanders sent you“. that’s it! you’ll be entered to win!

Grande Dame

I’d like to share a project with you today…

This project is very special to me because it celebrates the life of my Grandmother, Merle Virginia focusing on my favorite picture of her, which was taken in the early 1920’s.

My Gram lived to be 101 years old and held on to her wish to be able to stay in her own home til the end, she was one tough lady.

She used to tell me stories about her mother playing the organ and piano to accompany the silent movies in the theatre, so that was the inspiration for the piece.

This altered frame incorporates papers from Graphic 45, stamps and Spritz Screens from Hampton Arts featuring G45 designs and LOTS of Clearsnap products. Also included are bits and pieces of vintage “junque” that I have accumulated through trips to flea markets and estate sales.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The base of the project is an MDF frame which was flat on the front and resembled a shadowbox on the back. I thought the back was much more interesting than the front, so I used the backside of the frame to build this piece.

If you have someone who is close to your heart that you would like to honor with a similar project, here are s few tips:

  • start by listing things that were unique to them
  • gather memorabilia, cards or letters, and vintage bits that relate to them
  • decide on a color scheme and gather papers, inks and embellishments in those colors
  • select stamps to use as backgrounds and accents that will compliment your project
  • CREATE!

The “create” part should be the enjoyable part, give yourself permission to play and experiment. Relax and let the memories of your special someone inspire you.

Here is a list of Clearsnap products that were used to create my project:

Smooch Spritz: Log Cabin, Gold Glow, Caramel Latte, Tea Party and Vanilla Shimmer

Smooch: Shabby Pink, Mocha, Lettuce, Banana Custard, Snickerdoodle, Moonlight, Silver Fox, Olive Twist, Gold Lame’ and Taffy

ColorBox Archival Dye Ink: Mudslide, Cookie Dough, Putty and Mermaid

ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink: Chestnut Roan

ColorBox Pigment Ink: Dragonfly Black

Fairy Dust Glitter: Pralines & Cream

Top Boss Embossing Powder: Opalescent Clear

Glue Gloss

Color Catcher

the charm bracelet class is $20 and the pendant is $16; you have your choice of a boy or a girl on the pendant. color and designs are totally up to you! i’ll have ALL the colors of the GORGEOUS Smooch Accent Inks available as well as a wide selection of stamps.

class updates…

it seems like march has just FLOWN by – must have been all the wind! LOL!

i thought i’d have SO much time on my hands with scrapbook 911 closing, but that has NOT been the case. i’ve been very busy trying to get all of my april classes lined up and scheduled, as well as getting ALL of the samples for the classes DONE!

i have the NEW CLASS INFO PAGES up on both my PHOTOFULL and MONEY $AVING $KETCHES classes. if you look to the left, just below my son chris’ snow angel bLiNkie, you’ll see a heading for: “class photos, descriptions and supplies“. if you click on the links there, you will find pages containing info about current classes, including photos, class supply lists, tools needed as well as class notes. this is the BEST place to check for ALL the info you need about my classes. i am hoping to be able to create a page for each class that i teach.

all of my class info has been updated and is current, but there are a few more classes that will be added for april in the next week or so.

i am hoping that there will be a GREAT turnout at STAMP ANTONIO for my april PhotoFULL and Money $aving $ketches classes, as Amy and Carol were nice enough to provide a “home” for these classes. since they don’t have a large selection of papers and cardstocks yet – they are in the process of GROWING that section of their store :) – you will need to bring your own supplies to these classes – which is why they are priced at only $8! you can find out exactly what you need to bring by clicking on my “class pages”. i did find the printed papers i used on all the april class layouts at Stamp Antonio though – so if you like what i used, you can find those there!

both classes will be held on thrusday, april 7 – Money $aving $ketches will be held from 10:30 to 12:30…

and PhotoFULL will run from 6:00 to 8:00…

i’ll also be teaching 2 other classes at STAMP ANTONIO this month…

if you like jewelry and would like to learn how to make your own unique pieces using SMOOCH ACCENT INKS and stamps, then plan to attend one or both of these classes…

dangle gal or guy“…

and “charmed i’m SURE” bracelet class…

both classes are being taught together with work time of 1:00 to 4:00 on saturday, april 9. you can make one or both of these projects during that time. a variety of stamps and LOTS of SMOOCH colors will be available to choose from so you can customize your design as you like.

and last but not least, i am working on the next book in my aLteReD book series… “join the circus“. this book will feature the new LE CIRQUE collection by GRAPHIC 45,  stamps from HAMPTON ART and ephemera from GECKO GALZ! i’ll post photos of the sample just as SOON as it’s ready – i hope to have it done by next week so stay tuned.

STAMP ANTONIO is accepting sign ups for all of these classes now, so please call them them at 210-764-7900  to sign up or for more information.

thanks!

last minute classes…

if you don’t have anything to do this saturday…

i’ll be teaching 2 layout classes at The Scrapbooking Factory’s retreat! this is a last minute addition to my calendar, so space is VERY limited. you don’t have to be attending the retreat in order to take the class, and kits are available. please call Jane at 210-857-8697 to sign up, or to get more info.

here are the two classes i’ll be teaching…

first, at 10:30 is “play MISTY with me”…

we’ll be tinting “invisibles” papers by Heidi Swapp using Smooch and Glimmer Mist – all the “printed” papers, ribbons and flowers started out WHITE! you get to chose your own color scheme — neutrals, pastels, brights or a mix – whatever combination you like. for this project – YOU are the product designer!

next, at 2:00, is “lotsa photos layout”…

this layout is NOT what it seems! it has a secret – well, actually a couple of secrets – it can hold 25 or MORE large to full size photos! its like getting FOUR 2 page layouts in ONE! come try this class to find out where the photos are hidden. and no – for those of you who might be worried – no page protectors will be injured! LOL!

i’ll also be teaching a couple of classes at Jane’s upcoming retreat at the rockin’ r, march 11-13. there are only a few spots left, so sign up QUICK if you are interested!

thanks,
