chasing away the winter blues!!!

every year around rodeo time, the weather here in san antonio takes a turn for the WORSE! cold, wet, damp, drizzly – just YUCKY!

i start to get the winter blues about this time of year – what i wouldn’t give to see a BRIGHT BLUE texas sky instead of the grey ones that have been overhead lately! so to pull myself out of the winter doldrums; i worked on scrapping some SUNSHINY SUMMER pics!

here is a layout of my 2 boys playing with the hose and chasing frogs – hope it inspires you to scrap something SUMMERY!

i used papers from the ALL WOUND UP line by DAISY BUCKET – it’s fresh and fun and perfect for chasing away the BLUES!

CHA sneak peek! 3 new reminisce lines!

reminisce is releasing 3 new lines before CHA!

first up is MY JUNGLE SAFARI. it’s perfect for toddler zoo pics, or to use as as room decor for your little one! fun bright colors with adorable little animals! all the papers are double sided, so you have a lot of patterns to work with. there are also lots of matching stickers!

then there is GREEN DAY; get a jump start on your st. pat’s day crafting with this BLINGY line! lots of glitter and shine! the matching sticker sheets have lots of bling and glitter as well!

and finally, a soft and pretty beach line…COASTAL PASSION! this line really has two sides, muted and subtle and bright and fun! there are some great sand, sky and shell papers with matching stripes and word papers as well as lots of beautiful sticker sheets. and then there is a cute flip flop paper with matching stickers. All of these papers are double sided.

if you would like to see samples of the papers and stickers for these lines, as well as some project ideas, click here!
i’m sorry that i don’t have complete images of all the items, but i didn’t know i’d get to do a sneak peek and i had to just photograph what i had left after making my layouts and projects! reminisce should have these items on their site soon though, but this will give you a little taste til then!

new FLIRT by reminisce!

reminisce has a new line out, just in time for valentine’s day cards, projects and layouts! it is GORGEOUS! lots of sparkle and BLING! i took pics of the new papers and embellies at scrapbook 911, so if you are local, stop by and pick some up before they are all gone!

on january 26, i’ll be having an acrylic mini album class featuring the FLIRT line, there are still a few spots left for it.

there will also be a free make and take after the class; we’ll be making a tag.

you can use the tag on your own layout, project or card, or you’re welcome to copy the layout i made to go with the tag. detailed instructions as well as a supply list and photos are available for free with purchase of the product at scrapbook 911. for those of you who don’t happen to live near san antonio, you can find the directions here!

PHOTO-FULL class on Monday!

I will teach my PHOTO-FULL class at Scrapbook 911 this Monday.

The class is geared towards scrappers who want to get MORE photos on their pages. We shoot for 10-12 photos (4X6 photos!) on a 2 page layout, but have had layouts with up to 24! Flaps, foldouts, foldovers, etc. Lots of tips and techniques you can use on YOUR pages to get MORE of you photos on them! In each class, you’ll receive a set of directions as well as a photo, so you can use the ideas and or the layout again and again! You also get to select your own papers and embellishments, so you can customize your layout to your photos! There is still space available in this class, so please call the store to sign up!

share YOUR work!

I’d like to create a “reader” gallery to share YOUR work. So if you have used a project of mine for inspiration for a project of yours, or if you have projects you’ve made in one of my classes to share, OR, if you made something FABULOUS that you can’t wait to show off  – PLEASE SEND ME A SCAN OR PHOTO !  I’d LOVE to see what YOU are working on!

This week has been a LITTLE hectic, I’ve been working on projects for 3 new lines by Reminisce (I have permission to give you a sneak peek on the 19th!) as well as getting ready for and teaching classes. I have also been putting together a family trip to DISNEY LAND. We’re going the week before CHA (the big craft/scrapbook tradeshow). The dh & kids will come home while mommy stays and plays for a few days! LOL! I’m hoping that next week will be a LITTLE quieter! We’ll see.

1 spot left!!!

there is just ONE spot left for the mini album class that i am teaching this saturday!

so if you were waiting to sign up, please do it now! if the class fills, please sign up for the wait list in case someone cancels. I don’t have any additional supplies, so i won’t be able to increase the class size.

my 10 things… mini album is the first in a series of several hide & seek flap book classes being taught at scrapbook 911. samples are up for dimitra’s and gaelynn’s classes, so stop by the store and check them out! (sorry, jenny’s class is already full, but you can still get on the waitlist!)

the 10 things… mini album, has 10 flaps that lift to reveal a “hidden” space. What you fill the space with is up to you, as is the ending to the 10 things title! 10 things… i love about you, 10 things… i want my kids to know about me, 10 things… i’ve always wanted to do etc…

if you’re already signed up, great! i look forward to seeing you saturday! if you aren’t signed up — it’s not too late — if you HURRY! LOL!

waste not…want not…

okay! as promised, here is a technique! it’s a pretty simple one, but it can come in handy!

we ALL have some of THESE laying around…

and what do you do with your leftover letters? have you ever thought about giving them a MAKEOVER? need a certain color letter to match a layout but don’t have any? well then, change what you have into what you want! first, take the letters of your choice off the sheet and lightly adhere them to the back of the alphabet sticker sheet…

next, use an ink, in the color of your choice to change the color of your letter. here, i’m using a warm green chalk ink from colorbox. the chalk inks cover well, and dry quickly…

and VIOLA, here’s the finished product. letters that were once red are now green!

of course the lighter your original letters, the more color options you have. darker color letters will be harder to “tint”, although you can give them a light sand with a file to lighten them a bit. if the letters are slick, you can also give them a light sand to get the ink to adhere, otherwise, you’ll have to use a permanent ink. don’t have inks? use pens! permapaques by sakura or slick writers by american crafts work great since they won’t smear!

a few quick hints are…

1) make sure that the back of your sticker letter sheet is slick and that the letters will come off after you ink them! you can also just leave them in place and carefully ink them, or just ink up the whole sheet! if you do only want to ink a few letters and the back of the sheet is not slick, then you can put your letters on waxed paper to ink them.

2) if the color is not quite as dark as you want, you can add another coat of ink.

3) let the letters sit and dry a few minutes. you might also lightly blot them with a paper towel to remove any excess ink. otherwise you might get ink on your hands and smudge your work when you go to apply the letters.

2 classes this monday!

i will be teaching 2 classes at scrapbook 911 this coming monday, january 7th. it’s not too late to sign up for either of these classes, so please call the store if you are interested.

first up is SKETCH & CROP beginning at 9:30 AM.

this is a 4 hour class, and one of the few offered at the store for you DAYTIME croppers! during the first part of the class, roughly the first 2 hours, i’ll provide you with a sketch. you get to select your OWN papers for this class, and you’ll get to select 2 sets. so you’ll leave with 2 complete 2 page layouts! be sure to bring at least 2 sets of about 12 to 15 photos each with you! during the last 2 hours of the class, i’ll host a crop. bring more photos or projects and i’ll be happy to help you with layout ideas or paper choices!

next up, from 6:30 to 8:30 is monday night group therapy:

each month, this class focuses on a new product and how to use it or a new technique. we’ll create a 2 page layout – usually a little on the shabby side! this class is heavy on the “learning” side, so you get lots of information about the product(s) or technique(s) shown on the layout.

in this month’s class, tim holtz products are the topic of discussion and his new GRUNGE BOARD is the star of the show! come prepared to have fun, get messy and DE-STRESS while you DI-STRESS!
