happy halloween!

hello!

i have a halloween project that i would like to share with you! i know, i know it’s been a LONG time since i just shared a project, and i didn’t have much time to whip something up today. BUT — this project literally took about 15 minutes from beginning to end!

i love all things vintage, and that includes old halloween and those fabulous monsters featured in the classic horror films from the 50’s and before. dracula, frankenstein, the werewolf, the mummy creature from the black lagoon… and MORE.

so while perusing the aisles of my local dollar store, i happened to spot halloween colored candles in plain glass holders. i thought it would be great to add some halloween graphics to the outside of the holders to dress them up.

so i searched on the web and found some images from those films that i wanted to use and copied them into a word document. i adjusted the size of the images to fit on the front of the candle holders…

halloween-candles-print

then i printed them out on a sheet of Computer Grafix Clear Adhesive Backed Ink Jet Film from GRAFIX. i LOVE this product! you can print on it, draw on it, stamp on it – as long as you are using a permanent ink you are good to go! you are basically creating a clear sticker to put on whatever it is that you want to embellish. the film also comes without the adhesive backing and in a matte white finish. but for this project the clear is perfect!

i cut out the designs, peeled off the backings and put them on the candles, take a look…

halloween-candles-1

quick and easy! and i think they look fun! a great way to add a bit of “retro” to your halloween decor.

and here is what they look like all lit up in the dark…

halloween-candles-3

frankenstien was a little hard to photograph! but i REALLY liked how dracula came out! take a look…

halloween-candles-7

you can experiment with the brightness and contrast of your images to get them just right. a lot depends on the color of your candle. the lighter colors worked best i think.

this would be a great way to embellish candles for other occasions as well: holidays, birthdays, weddings…

and it is SO QUICK and EASY to do! you could print full pages of multiple images if you need large quanties of candles.

but picture this technique on other items as well, like picture frames, mirrors, notebooks, really anything that needs a little dress up.

hope you enjoyed and have a sPOoKy Halloween!

upcoming classes…

hello!

i will be teaching the photoFULL and money $aving $ketches classes for october and november. we’ll have to see after that! we have had some new students join, which is great. i’d like to keep this series going IF there is enough CONSISTENT interest.

i’ll be teaching both classes at Scrapbook n’ More tomorrow, tuesday, 10/25 from 10:30 to 1:30.

another upcoming class is the {girlfriends} altered book class, scheduled for saturday, november 12 from 1:00 to 6:00. this will be a departure from my usual “holiday themed” altered books. i could not resist doing something with the new FABULOUS line by Authentique…

gf1gf2gf3gf4

this book will be a great way to celebrate the friendships in your life. keep it to stash and display pics and treasures from time spent with your “besties”. or make one as a gift for a very special friend {think ahead to christmas! hint hint!} i can’t wait to pull out of the frilly, blingy junque in my stash to use to embellish this book! i hope to have the sample book done soon – but it’s not quite ready yet. i got derailed by a nasty “bug” and got a bit more behind than usual :(

Scrapbook n’ More is already taking sign ups for the class, so if you want to go ahead and reserve your space, please DO SO! here are the deets as i know them right now, i’ll be adding info and the supply list as i have it…

new class!

hello!

i have just added a new class to my calendar!

i will be teaching a class during the Heirloom Productions Rubber Stamp & Paper Arts Festival in New Braunfels.

the show runs the weekend of july 9th and 10th, and my class will be from 1-3* on saturday. *(updated time)

carrie avery, owner of Paper Wings Productions, is sponsoring the class and we will be using her fabulous stamps and clip art embellishments during the class.

we will be using LOTS of other great products and inks in the class too…

ColorBox Pigment Ink, Dye Ink and Chalk Ink, ColorBox Spritzers, ColorBox Embossing PowderColorBox Stylus & Tips as well as the NEW! ColorBox Pearl Rain Spray, all provided by Clearsnap, will add color, texture and some BLiNg to your stamping. while Zip Dry and 3-in-1 Glue, provided by Beacon Adhesives, will be used to assemble your projects.

here’s what we will be making…

by the sea class collage

we will be learning a variety of stamping techniques in this class including: using stamps, inks and sprays to create background designs, how to add layering and texture to your projects, an easy stamped ombre effect, what to do with ink left on stamps or surfaces, distressing and heat embossing.

although this is a 2 hour class, the first half will be devoted to stamping and inking all pieces, while the second half will be assembly. so if you prefer to finish your piece at home, you can leave after the first half and get back to the show!

tickets for the show are available online in advance at Heirloom Productions,  you can also purchase advance tickets at Scrapbook n’ More in New Braunfels. tickets can also be purchased at the door for a slightly higher rate.

tickets for classes can also be purchased in advance both online or by phone, or you can sign up at the show if there is still space available. class size is limited, so if you know you want to attend, please sign up early! NOTE: this class has JUST been added and is NOT yet showing up online, you can call to get tickets, or check back for when it is added to the Heirloom Productions site.

i will also be doing a demo and or make in take at the Paper Wings Productions booth – more details about that to follow.

i have some great projects and pics i’d like to share with you…

first, it’s always nice to see what you “creatives” make using things learned in my classes. delia recently sent me a FABULOUS sports themed altered book that she made for her nephew. she just recently gifted him with it and she said he first question was “how long did it take you to make this?”. how NICE that her nephew truly understood and appreciated what an amazing labor of love the book was.

delia, amazingly, has only taken my altered book classes by “kit”, she hasn’t been able to actually come to class. FAB to know that it CAN be done through directions alone – guess MY time spent on the directions is worthwhile and appreciated as well!

delia generously agreed to let me share her awesome project with you, so take a look…

on may 21, i held a monoprinting workshop using the new MONOPRINT PLATES by Grafix

monoprint plates

monoprinting is fun to do and there are a VARIETY of great techniques to create unique designs and papers and embellishments to use on all your papercrafting.

Clearsnap

and DecoArt

along with Grafix supplied some of our products to play with in the class.

here are some pics from the class, everyone had their own “clothesline” to hang the prints they made up to dry – and let me tell you – everyone made LOTS of prints! good, messy fun was had by all. click on pics to enlarge and enable “scroll through”view…

susan at Scrapbook n’ More still had a few of the Monoprint Plates in stock if you would like to check them out or pick a set up!

i have some other personal projects i’d like to share, but i’ll save them for another post!

NSD finale…

all packed up and on the way home with a bundle of FINISHED layouts!

here are a few others i finished tonight…

having 2 boys i don’t usually get to do feminine, flowery or frilly layouts. but this last group includes ALL those elements!

first up are the sample layouts for my monthly money $aving $ketches class. susan got some gorgeous papers in at Scrapbook n’ More that i thought would be perfect for Mother’s Day…

in this class you select one group of papers, cut once and assemble 2 – 2 page layouts using my sketch. it’s a great way to get a lot of scrapping done quickly! especially good for photos with coordinating colors, photos that require multiple layouts or scrapping for multiple children or albums. and if you use double sided papers, you can end up with 2 totally different layouts! you can take this class at scrapbook n’ more or contact me about getting the class through email.

this last layout is fun and funky! mom and i went to the barry manilow concert – you know what they say – manilow fans are the “barry” best!

the colors in the photos were so wacky and the photos themselves weren’t all that great, so i figured I may as well have fun with the layout!

hope you all had a fun, fabulous and productive NSD!

altered book classes…

SAVE THE DATE!

please mark saturday, june 11 on your calendar as the date of my next altered book class.

i will be using the STORY BOOK collection by KaiserCraft…

the theme of the book will be FAMILY and i think the paper choice and overall feel of the book would make it a perfect gift idea for Father’s Day.

i am also working on a project, possibly a mini album or DE-constructed altered book using FAIRY DUST collection by KaiserCraft…

and finally… a question for YOU the studio audience!

HEAR YE! HEAR YE!

is there ANY interest on an altered book using the ENCHANTED FOREST line from G45?

i loved the look of the line when I saw it in person, but dismissed it as a possible altered book subject as i

sure what theme or direction a book using this line would take.

BUT- after i used the Enchanted Forest line to design my layout for this month’s PhotoFULL layout i REALLY fell in love with it! it is just a BEAUTIFUL line with fabulous colors and illustrations. (for pic of layout – see previous post).

SO? any interest? it would be great for pics of the renfests you and your family may have attended, engagement photo, princess photos of your little royal or whatever other themed photos you could come up with.

post your YAY or NAY comments here!

NSD continued…

still cropping! took awhile to crank out a couple of layouts – BUT…

i designed one layout for my upcoming photoFULL class, then copied it so both kids would each have their own layout.

i was scrappin’ photos from the Sherwood Forest Faire rennaissance festival and was EXCITED to find THE perfect paper for the layouts – G45’s Enchanted Forest Collection. (scrapbook n’ more always has the latest and greatest from Graphic 45).

there are 8 more photos plus journaling “hidden” on this layout! make plans to attend my next PhotoFULL class to find out where they are!

if you live out of the area, you can take my monthly photoFULL or money $aving $ketches classes via email directions that include a supply list, cutting directions, full written directions and full color photos. just use the “contact me” form and request all the details.

my STORY book mini album class

hello all!

i have just added a new class to the calendar at Scrapbook n’ More

my STORY book mini album…

collage picthe mini album features the new TOY BOX line by Bo Bunny

this book is a terrific way to tell the “story” of YOUR kiddos or grandkiddos in photos. great for gifting to!

this bright and colorful mixed media album features 4 wood pages separated by a felt page, a tag pocket page and a mini file folder page. the mini file folder page opens to reveal a spot for journaling as well as for extra photos.

there are LOTS of spaces for photos too as some of the photo mats are “flaps” that open to reveal MORE places to add photos. also numerous pockets, tags and such to make the book interesting.

this is a simple project that even a beginner paper crafter can tackle, but i think experienced crafters will find a few new ideas and techniques as well.

space for this class is VERY limited, so if you are interested, please call Scrapbook n’ More at 830-214-1690 to sign up or for more info.

here are the deets:

date: saturday, may 21

time: 10:00 to 12:30

price: $36

i am also planning an art journaling class featuring monoprinting techniques for later that same day. i have not worked out all the details yet, so stay tuned for more on that later!

please let me know if you have any questions, thanks!

scrapbook GARAGE SALE!!!

hello!

first, i wanted to share a layout with you today…

basketball layout - reminisce - wm

team photos can sometimes be hard to crop, the photos are usually a larger size, making them hard to fit on one page, but they aren’t big enough to go on a 2 page layout unless you really dress up the layout and fill in the empty spaces.

i do mainly 2 page layouts, so squeezing the photos on a one pager wasn’t really an option. fortunately, i didn’t have to do too much in the way of “fill” as the papers i used supplied that.

i used the NEW! The Basketball Collection from REMINISCE.

there is a great selection of both papers and embellishments that make it easy to customize your layout.

and NEXT! i’d like to remind you about the SCRAPBOOK GARAGE SALE at Scrapbook n’ More this saturday, january 16th. you can get more details on the Scrapbook n’ More facebook page. the important things to remember are come early to get the best deals – doors open at 9AM sharp – and bring CA$H! garage sale items are CA$H ONLY!

i will be taking LOTS of stuff: papers, embellies, stamps, some new kits and MORE!!! i believe my stuff will be in a corner on a card table and maybe nearby table too! seller ID is TS13.
