two halloween projects on the Clearsnap Blog…

hi ya!

i recently posted 2 halloween projects to the Clearsnap Blog..

first, i made a little “fascinator” — the very latest in what the fashionable pumpkin is wearing this year…

the hat is shown on a too small pumpkin because i gave my BIG pumpkin away…

you can see BOTH projects using the links below and also get all the supplies and directions to make them yourself:

PUMPKIN FASCINATOR

GHOSTLY WHITE TO SPOOK-TACULAR

while you are there, please be sure to check out other halloween projeccts from the other team members and myself.

and if you are in town, you can see both projects, as well as the Steampunk Halloween layout i did of drew, on display at Stamp Antonio.

tfl!

2 christmas classes at scrapbook n’ more…

ok! the deets are set for my COUNTDOWN 2 CHRISTMAS class…

the class will be held at Scrapbook n’ More in new braunfels on saturday, december 1 from 2:00 to 5:00, cost is $35.

you’ll be able to make the countdown calendar AND start the countdown all on the day!

i am also offering FABULOUS FINDS, a make your own necklace class on the same day, december 1, also at Scrapbook N’ More. this class will run from 10:00 to 1:00…

i will have TONS of parts for you to select from, vintage to new: charms, watch parts, junque jewelry, beads, findings, chains and more. i been hard at work scouring antique stores, shows, estate sales and online sites for special trinkets just for you. you’ll get a few base pieces to build on, then you’ll have “class cash” so you can select your own parts. extra parts, pieces and bits will be available for purchase if you decide you want to add MORE goodies to your piece. you’ll leave with a complete necklace – pendant and chain.

this would make a great gift for that “hard to shop for” person on your Christmas list, or come and make something special to wear with your holiday outfit.

the cost of this class is $35 {included is enough “class cash” to “purchase” parts to equate to what’s in the sample} plus, any additional parts or pieces that you would like to purchase separately – but that’s optional!

you can sign up for either or both of these classes NOW! call Scrapbook N’ More at {830} 214-1690 for more info or to sign up.

new class… countdown 2 christmas

i’ve been collecting vintage yardsticks for almost a year with this project in mind…

i just finished the sample today! it features ephemera from Gecko Galz, inks, glitters and more from Clearsnap and papers from Bo Bunny, it’s called Countdown 2 Christmas

the idea is that you use the clothespin and move it along the “dates” aka: numbers on the yardstick, day by day toward Christmas – the “25”.

i’ve also added some goodies from my special vintage stash… a tiny mercury glass feather tree ornament, some frosty garland, buttons, pom trim, anagram letters and a green little “plate” – have NO idea what it’s original purpose was – now it’s a frame for santa!

i hope to have all the deets on this class by 10/25 if not sooner.

i still have one or two more classes in the works before the end of the year. i need to USE up some of my stash! all that shopping has it filled to overflowing! LOL

thanks for your interest…

Craft-A-Day Book Review

i have an interesting, recently released, new craft book from Quirk Books to tell you about…

it’s title, CRAFT-A-DAY, is apropos as the book delivers exactly what the title promises, 365 crafts, one for each day of the year…

the author, Sarah Goldschadt, is a Danish American freelance designer who has a refreshing outlook on crafting. one sentence in her introduction seemed to leap off the page… “Crafting doesn’t have to be a competition.” as a papercraft designer and instructor myself; crafting sometimes seems more like a job than a hobby.  i’m always pushing myself to do something bigger and better – competing not only with other designers, but with myself!

so Sarah’s view of crafting for the pure enjoyment of it; using simple supplies to create projects that are quick and easy to do, had instant appeal for me.

the book is broken up into weekly sections of daily projects that revolve around a theme. themes run the gamut from shapes and animals to things like gnomes, robots and umbrellas.

the weekly themes are all listed in a unique visual pattern index that includes the week the projects are for…

there are also pages that show the supplies used as well as basic how-to’s that apply to all the projects. the simple, neat and clean visuals make the book easy to read and follow…

i also liked how the inside front and back covers, which are usually blank, were cleverly used to provide bonus templates…

each project is labeled at the top with the date, includes a large color photo, a supply list and easy to follow directions…

most of the projects, if not all, are kid friendly. my youngest son chris is quite the crafter, so i thought it would be fun to try out a project with him. so we turned to that day’s date, september 20, and found MINI PARTY PERSON GIFT TAG. perfect! chris had a birthday party to go to that weekend. so we gathered up the supplies and got to work.

here’s chris cutting out the tag template he traced…

then he traced the template onto colored cardstock…

he traced and cut out all the pieces for the girl…

stopping to model the hat he made…

chris then glued all the pieces to the tag…

and viola! his finished tag, all ready to add to a gift bag…

and of course i had to make a tag too, i decided to use printed paper instead of cardstock for mine…

which brings me to a point… these projects are easily adaptable to different materials and design choices. you can dress them up as much as you like, or create them as designed.

i sometimes find it hard to jump into a big project, and can see where getting my crafting hands warmed up with a fun and easy project will help me get my mind turned to creating!

the holidays are coming up fast, and i can think of several crafter’s on my list – from young to young at heart – who would enjoy this book and the great projects included.  i’m sure you have a few on your list too!

so whether you are looking for a gift idea, or you yourself need a unique way to get your creative juices flowing, and get in the crafting “habit”, check out CRAFT-A-DAY!

steampunk time traveler…

a steampunk time traveler…

that’s what my oldest, drew wanted to be for halloween last year. his costume was probably one of the more complicated ones i’ve sewn for either kid over the years! we didn’t get it as “finished” as we wanted to though, so we’ll be adding to it again this year.

i had a few leftover papers and a bunch of scraps of the Graphic 45 Happy Haunting line after my halloween tryptic class, so i was inspired to put them to use for a “fussy” layout – worthy of the victorian influenced steampunk style – to document drew’s 2011 hallloween costume.

here’s what i came up with…

the background papers are from My Mind’s Eye, but all the other papers are from G45’s Happy Haunting. the layout is embellished with leaves diecut from vintage book pages that were “smooched” with Smooch Spritz and distressed using ColorBox Cat’s Eye Chalk Inks. the edges of most papers were distressed with chalk inks as well.

other embellies include goodies from my vintage and not-so-vintage stash.

the layout will be on display at Stamp Antonio if you want to take a closer look.

tfl!

halloween tryptic class…

i taught my halloween tryptic class at stamp antonio this past sunday…

we had a lot of fun: we cut, we collaged, we stamped, we embossed, and we snacked a little too! here are some photos from the class; if you look close you can see LOTS of Clearsnap inks and more as well as lots of Zip Dry and 3-in-1 bottles! my classes are inky and gooey! LOL!…

thanks to all who came to the “stroke of midnight” halloween tryptic classes at both stamp antonio and at scrapbook n’ more! please be sure you e-mail me if you have any questions as to how to finish your project if you didn’t finish in class.

i did have one kit leftover that is available at stamp antonio – cost is $40.

thanks again!
