jingle bells…jingle bells…

i think we are FINALLY finished decorating around our house!

we started early, but stopped and started several times! we set up the tree one day, then started decorating it the next day. then the kids and i started decorating outside, and then we went a few days without doing anything.

then a few days later, we added a few more ornaments to the tree, then nothing again! LOL!

and after 2 and a half weeks of this off and on nonsense — i decided it was time to GET IT DONE the other day! so i stayed up late and set up my decorations around the house, had the kids finish the tree, and then rounded everyone up to finish hanging the lights and decorations outside.

so here it is 4 days before Christmas and we JUST NOW finished decorating! LOL! it will be time to take them down before we know it!

i like vintage ornaments and decorations, so just about all of our Christmas decor is vintage. i like the old designs, the colors and just thinking about how many Christmases these pieces have seen!

here’s some photos of our decorations…

just like grandma’s house! LOL! one of these Christmases, i’m going to have the aluminum tree like my gram did have. i want a BIG one with pom pom branches. i have a small 4 footer, but i want to find a BIG one to put up in the living room. i already have the color wheel.

studio… phase 2…

the installer came saturday and started setting the cabinets. he got a lot done and the HUGE pile of boxes was reduced quite a bit!

the more cabinets go up, the more i LOVE the color! i think once the white countertops go in i’ll REALLY love it!

it will be SO nice to reclaim my dining room, which is right now acting as the storeroom for all my cropping supplies – and let’s just say it’s OVERFLOWING – and that’s being kind! LOL!

here are some pics of the room. there are 2 VERY LARGE pantry units on the right wall as you look into the room, a desk area is going to the left of the windows on the back wall and cabinets will run underneath it. then there are upper and lower cabinets along the right wall and my desk area will be on the wall to the right of the door…

studio news…

the transformation has begun — office to studio!

we’ve emptied out the furniture, painted the room, swept it clean and are ALL ready for the cabinets…

the installer is supposed to be arriving any minute! i’m hoping to have all the cabinets in in the next few days, then – the countertops!

“smooched” ornaments…

i found some plain plaster ornaments and thought it would be fun to BLinG them up!

i knew Smooch Spritz and Smooch Accent Ink would be the perfect product to add the SpaRkle and SHimMer that i wanted. plus they are both very easy to use.

first i spritzed the plaster ornaments with Smooch Spritz to lay down a background color; i used Sun Kissed on the stocking, Limolicious on the tree and Mixed Berries for the ornament…

then, i used a heat gun to quickly set the Smooch Spritz, you could also just set them aside to dry for 10 or 15 minutes. the drying time will depend on the plaster. these ornaments were made of a VERY dense plaster and were buffed very smooth, so i decided to heat set them to speed things up.

then, i used Smooch Accent Inks to embellish them…

i used Pool,Taffy, Kiwi, Sassy Pink, Carrot and Grape Soda to color in the details on the ornaments, then used Moonlight and Tuxedo to add the highlights, stitching lines and outlines.

this would be a great project to do with the kids too! so if you are trying to figure out how to get some “quiet time” next week when they are out of school {or if the grandkids are visiting } give it a try!

my office/studio…

we are FINALLY getting around to getting my office finished – or trying to anyway…

mom came over last week and helped me pack EVERYTHING up, which translates to “i have no idea where anything is!”

but, at least i’m making progress. i’ve already sent out for estimates, and was focusing today on paint colors. i went to lowe’s today to pick up some samples so i could bring them home and decide. i was TRYING to keep an open mind about color choice…

— how’d i do?

well, there ARE many DIFFERENT shades of lime green in the mix :)

i honestly did try, i looked at a soft rose – yuck! i’m just NOT a pink person, peach and orange were out of the question, yellow – i’m saving that for the kitchen, blue? robin’s egg, aqua? NOPE, and purple – i’m just NOT going there! i tried to look at a few shades of brown, and i even debated a soft grey, but in the end – i wandered over the the green section, and of course proceeded to pick up ANY hue that i deemed to belong to the lime family. i DID give myself one last shot to chose a nice, soft sage color, but NADA. so the plan was to take the swatches home and MAKE sure that is what i wanted, but then i flipped through a sample book that shows rooms and found this…

it just looked so fresh and pretty, i LOVED it. and i planned on white countertops to go with my natural maple cabinets. CRISP! like an apple! so great, i had my color — or did i. when i picked up a swatch of the color shown, it didn’t match the color in the photo! the swatch had a LOT more blue in it and leaned more toward mint or sage than it did lime. so i went searching for a swatch that DID match the photo, and drumroll please…… the winner is…. KEY LIME PIE!

i’m sure that comes to NO great surprise to any of you who know me! i went ahead and bought the paint instead of being rational and reasonable and going home to think about it. i was scared i’d chicken out and go for something safe and boring! in fact, just to make SURE i didn’t change my mind and just decide to leave the office the nice, dull, pink-y brown it is now, i came home and painted squares of the key lime on each wall!

i think it will look fun and add some energy to the room. and it’s not like a HUGE amount of the wall color is going to show anyway, i’ve got upper and lower cabinets on 3 of the 4 walls. so there will be a little space at the top, between the uppers and lowers, over my desk, and a few other small areas. i just hope i DO like it once it’s done!

i hope to get started painting this week, but we have to clear out the furniture first. does anyone need a computer armoir or a bookcase? we are selling both! they both have a light pickled finish and are in good condition. here’s some pics…

 you could also use the armoire for scrapbooking! merry christmas to YOU! {drop me an e-mail if you are interested in these}

i’m also having to give up my MUCH beloved vintage science lab table. i’m sure i’m the only one who would want it! it’s that lovely hospital green that was SO popular in the 50’s. but there just isn’t room for it so it HAS to go too :(

i’ll try to take pics and post them of our progress – hopefully there WILL BE SOME!
