under construction…

attention — this blog is under construction, things may appear, disappear and or reappear without notice! LOL!

since my blog has been up for over a year with NO significant changes, i decided that it was time to freshen it up a bit…

so, i’m checking and updating links, adding new catagories, trying out new galleries and slide shows and more… i have SO much that i want and need to add to my galleries, but i have to get it all scanned in or photographed first. i wanted to undertake this project earlier, but so much has been going on, it just had to get pushed back.

i had another major setback in getting started when drew downloaded a virus accidentally – and didn’t tell anyone! we didn’t know what was up until we couldn’t log onto the computer – it would let us log on, but then it would log us right back off! we couldn’t get to any programs at all! rob had to try to back up everything then wipe off and reload. some things were lost in the process. i just got my scanning program and a few other “specialty” programs dowloaded again. advice to everyone – if you purchase and download software – keep EVERYTHING! i thought i was going to have to re-buy software that i had purchased and downloaded on-line, but fortunately, i’d kept the e-mail receipts and was able to get the companies to send me the download info again. that could have been PRETTY expensive if i hadn’t kept those records. of course – the scary part is that i had them saved on the computer – which we could have lost! LOL! so maybe you should save hard copies too!

at any rate, the process is slow going. i have about a years worth of projects that need to be loaded in my galleries.  so keep checking back, you don’t know what will be different the next time you look!

UPDATE 3/23…

the link portion is pretty much finished, i’ve added about all i plan on adding right now – and they have all been checked so they should all be working!

i’ve redone ALL the galleries! they all have a fresh new look, and i’ve added new projects to all of them! i still need to scan and add some more recent projects, but for now – they are at least revamped!

my resume & about me pages have been redone as well!

so things are going well! if you have any comments or suggestions on the changes, please feel free to make them!

disney layouts!!!

well, i think i mentioned awhile back that i had been working on getting my disney trip pics scrapped and posted…

— SO  guess what!  i have both trips scrapped (thanks to two 24-3 retreats at scrapbook 911) and one album uploaded and ready for your viewing pleasure!

this first set of layouts is from our very first trip to disney – we took drew to disneyland for his 10th birthday in 2007. i can’t believe i managed to fit almost ALL the photos (and i really used pretty much EVERY single photo that i WANTED to use!) on 13 layouts! but as you can see from the layouts they are JAM packed with photos!

at first i was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of photos we took that had to be scrapped, so if you are in the same boat, here are some hints that i found helpful:

1) if you haven’t already printed your pics, and they are digital, try the smaller 4 X 5.3 digital format version. although they are slightly smaller than 4 X 6 pics,  you actually get MORE photo!  by that i mean by getting the true digital size, you don’t loose any of your photo to autocropping like you do with 4 X 6. AND — since they are a little smaller, you can sneak more on a page.

2) break your photos down by event — character signing, flight, hotel, dinners, etc, or by section of the park — tomorrowland, toontown, etc… then make a stack for each and label.

3) then go through each stack and put any “duplicate” photos together – the same shot just at different angle, or a closeup and one from a distance; pics that are basically of the same subject. then look through the “duplicates” and see which ones you can eliminate. Is one sharper than the rest? does one have more members of your “party” in it? are 3 just alike except for facial expressions. this is a good time to get rid of any really out of focus or dark photos too – unless it’s the only shot you have of something.

4) FINALLY, try to lay out the photos from each weeded stack on 2 – 12 X 12 pages. are there any you can crop down? can the photos all fit on a 2 page layout? are there any you don’t need? are there enough to make 2 – 2 page layouts?

— if you take it step by step, and break the photos down into groups, it makes it MUCH easier to scrap them.

my biggest hint though – and it is a REAL time and $$$ saver… is to decide on a color scheme and /or a set of papers and embellishments you want to work with and use them for the entire event. i like to do “theme” albums; Christmas, vacations, etc. using the same color scheme throughout. to me it unifies the pages and makes the event all go together. plus, it is much easier to scrap a BIG pile of photos, if you aren’t spending time trying to find paper and embellishments for each particular set of photos. and it’s cheaper too – since you can use leftover scraps from one page, to use on the next one! just gather your choice of papers, cardstocks and embellishments (ribbons, stickers, chipboard letters, etc.) and make sure everything coordinates. this is a good time to track down old supplies too – look through your stash and pull out anything that goes with the color scheme you’ve picked – don’t foget to pull out paints, pens and inks too.

for my pages, i used papers and embellishments from the REAL MAGIC and REAL MAGIC 2008 lines byREMINISCE, mixed with red, yellow, black and white cardstocks. rub on letters are also from Reminisce – from their FONT BUFFET line. chipboard and foam letters are mostly THICKERS from AMERICAN CRAFTS. i also pulled out some ribbons, stickles, paints and inks in coordinating colors too. surrounded by my mass of coordinated goodies, it was easy to grab stuff and design my layouts using them. i started all my layouts the same though, just photos placed on 2 blank pieces of white cardstock. i cropped and played with photo placement, then added in printed papers, cardstock and embellishments.

so without any further ado… here is my first disney “album”; i hope you enjoy it and are inspired to get busy on your own pages! and PLEASE — feel free to scraplift if you see anything you like!

new GRADUATION 2009 line from REMINISCE!

THIS IS MY 100th POST! i feel there should be ballons and confetti! LOL!

Reminisce will soon be releasing a brand new graduation line – GRADUATION 2009. The products aren’t up on the website yet, but there is a sneak peak on their BLOG.

the papers are GORGEOUS! there are shimmery silvers, black glittered accents, embossed papers AND foiled papers with FLOCKED accents! VERY rich, VERY, VERY nice! there are also cardstock stickers and some chipboard embellishments as well. one of my faves from the new line though – would have to be the clear stickers. they aren’t like the “old” clear stickers with big clunky clear plastic around them, these stickers lift off clean and look like a rub on when applied! they look FABULOUS!

i have 2 projects to share using this line, and i used the clear stickers on both; you can see the “graduation” sticker applied down the side of the photo on the layout, and “commencement” used on the silver swirl paper accent on the box.

a SPECIAL BIG, HUGE thank you goes out to SANDEE! that is her beautiful daughter BONNIE in the graduation pic on the layout. sandee was nice enough to help me out with a photo – i don’t have any grad photos – yet!

look for the line in stores soon – just in time for graduation – and PROM too!

dad’s home — again!

dad had to be readmitted to the hospital a few days ago, with some more complications. BUT – he got home on friday and he’s doing good. he’ll start radiation treatment in a few weeks. things will be rough for he and mom for the next few months, so i’d appreciate it if you would all keep them in your prayers.

i appreciate all the kind e-mails and comments to the blog, it really helps!

thanks – tami

update on my dad…

dad was taken into the er thursday nite because of some bleeding from the site of a biopsy that he had earlier in the week. he also had some irregularities in his heart.

while there, he experienced some massive bleeding from the same site and was rushed into emergency surgery to find and hopefully stop the bleeding. the surgeon found a ruptured artery that was causing the bleeding and repaired it. in all, dad has had 6 pints of blood since he arrived.

he seems to be stable now, the bleeding appears to have stopped and his vitals are good. they will keep him over the weekend for observation.

admidst all this, he received the biopsy results and was diagnosed with prostate cancer. he also had a bone scan and thankfully, that has come back negative, so it doesn’t look like the cancer has spread.

we haven’t been able to discuss any treatment options as of yet due to all the trauma and problems surrounding the biopsy.

my family and i would appreciate it if you would keep us in your thoughts and prayers in the coming days. and weeks ahead.

thank you — tami
