SCRAP-A-GANZA – day one!!!

well… day one of SCRAP-A-GANZA in houston is over, and it looks like it was a ROUSING success!

the convention center was PACKED!!! the booths and aisles were jam packed with scrappers. there was a great selection and a wide variety of products. i took photos, but i’ll have to wait until i get home to post them.

i had a class first thing in the morning; all went well – i managed NOT to forget anything! LOL! and everyone was super nice and seemed to enjoy the class. after it was over, i got a chance to look around and shop a bit. BY DESIGN SCRAPBOOK BOUTIQUE  had a fabulous booth! just like their store, the booth was decorated to the hilt, and filled with all the latest and greatest. they had a few products i hadn’t seen before and i can’t wait to use them. hopefully i’ll get a chance to work on them in the next week or so and will post pics!

charlotte, tinka and lulu and i got to houston yesterday afternoon and got busy shopping right away! charlotte had a route all worked out so we could make sure we got to see ALL the stores in the area.

we started at LONE STAR SCRAPBOOK COMPANY, then worked our way to BY DESIGN SCRAPBOOK BOUTIQUE. if you haven’t been to BY Design, here’s a few pics of the store, they’ll make you DROOL! LOL! (to see the whole album, just click on the photo, then hit slideshow, and sit back and watch the “show”!)

by design

we had a great lunch at THE FISH PLACE if you are ever in the area, i would HIGHLY recommend it; their food is DELICIOUS! and they have more on the menu than just seafood.

after lunch we hit A NOVEL APPROACH and then went on to JUST 4 FUN. we had signed up for the crop at archiever’s that night, so after shopping 4 stores, we headed over to get started crop’n! it was time to play with some of the new stuff we bought!

we were fairly productive at the crop, i got most of a mini album done, tinka & charlotte were working on layouts, and lulu was busy doodling letters.

after the crop, we headed to the hotel, which proved to be a little bit of an adventure. we’d had trouble earlier in the day with tollways, the lane we needed to be in seemed to keep changing. there were signs showing what lines were for what – passes, cash, need change – etc., so we’d head on over to the appropriate lane,  but then the next set of signs would contradict the first set and send us scrambling across several lanes trying to get in the correct one! i’m not sure what we were doing wrong, but it was obvious we weren’t doing the toll thing correctly.

trying to get to the hotel, we ran into a detour that had us feeling like we were driving in circles and again, sent us flying across several lanes of traffic in order to make the appropriate turn. the gps couldn’t catch up with the changes and was most frequently heard saying “recalculating route”. it felt like we were just circling the same area, but after quite awhile we did FINALLY arrive at the hotel.

after the expo we made a stop at SCRAPBOOK VILLAGE and shopped a bit. then we had lunch and headed back to the hotel. the hotel staff were nice enough to provide us with a meeting room that we could crop in. so we hauled in out stuff and got busy. i sneaked out for a bit to write this post, i’ll post about the rest of the trip when i get back.

if you are in the houston area and didn’t get down for SCRAP-A-GANZA today, i suggest you come down tomorrow! it is an event not to be missed! timi and her gals did a FANTASTIC job of getting the vendors and classes organzized; everything was perfect!

LOL! they were show up as the correct NUMBERS in ms word, they look like NUMBERS when i go to edit – but they are showing up on the post as smiley faces – so since i can’t seem to fix ’em,  i’m leaving ’em! LOL!

pics from mom & me class…

today i taught my first “mom & me” class at scrapbook 911; we were making a beach ball out of paper to display fun summer photos!

rocio brought her daughter nicole…

 ruth brought her daughter shannon…

and my mom – bonnie, brought my youngest son christopher…

the kids seemed to get into the project which began with them deciding which of their photos to use. then they had to build the beachball, piece by piece (lots of STICKY glue!) and decorate it with stickers and punches and diecuts that they got to select and cut themselves.

nicole had the idea to add some of the flower punches to her flip flops! what a great idea!

everyone’s project turned out great!

we’ll be making a mini album at the next class in july…

hope to see ya there!

p.s.: special thanks to linda for loaning me the die for this project and to rocio for loaning me her camera to take these pics!

flooding in Iowa – Reminisce store

most of you are aware of the terrible floods in the midwest…

the waters are beginning to recide, and the damages are being assessed. one of the victims of the flood waters was the Reminisce flagship store in coralville, iowa; it is doubtful that the store will reopen.

matt and andria gibson, the founders of reminisce, opened the store in 2002 and it soon grew into one of the best stores in the area. the store was sold to lisa and ed burkle in 2007.

designs by reminisce – the paper company was slowed a bit by the flooding, but will be getting back to normal and trying to catch up on orders now that the rain has slowed.

Reminisce has introduced a new line of papers FLOOD OF 2008, ALL proceeds will benefit the red cross; so please support their endeavor.

You can read more about the damage to the reminisce store and see photos of the flooding at these 2 sites:

please keep everyone affected by the floods in your prayers. as the rains stop, the time for clean-up and rebuilding begins.

on a sad note…

a few weeks ago, i received word that one heart…one mind would be closing…

it came as a bit of a shock to me, and i felt like i was losing a “family”. i have been fortunate to work with the owner – becki speakman, dana – her design team manager as well as the other very talented members of the design team for the past year and a half.

becki is moving on to a great opportunity and i wish her all the best! she is a VERY talented designer as can be seen in all the wonderful products that she has created and produced over the years.

it’s always hard to say goodbye – sounds cliche’ but it REALLY is! i’ll miss the people AND the products. i loved working with one heart…one line, everything always looked so “boutique”!

but, there is a bit of good news for some – those of you in and around the Kansas City, Kansas area. one heart…one mind will be having a HUGE warehouse sale to clear out their remaining stock. the sale will be held from 9AM to 1PM on saturday, june 7th. the address is 10311 west 87th terrace in overland, kansas. if you go, please bring your own bags, and leave the kiddos at home! prices will be up to 80% off. there will be papers, embellishments, rub ons and more! for those of you not in the area, call a friend who is! sorry, but nothing is available online, just cash & carry at the warehouse the day of the sale.

so, all good things must come to an end – another cliche’ but again, a fitting one.

and in honor of all the fun i had while being part of this fabulously talented team, i’ll be posting a few of my favorite “unpublished” one heart…one mind projects… the ones i loved – but the editors didn’t! LOL!

AND — here’s two for father’s day…

thanks for letting me share my “faves” with you! i hope you get inspired to go create something new!
