Clearsnap New Product Release - Collage 1

my project – a masculine birthday card – features several of the NEW! summer 2014 release products…

all SIX of the NEW! colors of ColorBox® Spritzers:  Pumpkin Pie, Lemon Drop, Frosted Plum, Mermaid, Grasshopper and Putty

two of the NEW! ColorBox® Art Screens: Numeric and Stonework

and one of the NEW! ColorBox® Creative Cards designs: Handwritten

i LOVE ColorBox® Creative Cards as they give you a jumping off point – you aren’t just staring at a blank piece of paper wondering what to do. the background is already done for you, so you get to start your card with one layer already THERE!

here is the finished card…

the card was inspired by the NUMERIC ColorBox® Art Screen. i needed to create a card for a 45th b-day and it was PERFECT for it. especially since it needed to be MANLY.

you could do the same card with different ages – just mask off the numbers you don’t need, and spritz those you do. change the color scheme and add flowers and it could be feminine as well. and the “grungy” look also makes it great for teens.

i started with a blank HANDWRITTEN ColorBox® Creative Card, then spritzed lightly with LEMON DROP ColorBox® Archival Dye Ink Spritzer to lay down some base color.  i placed the STONEWORK Art Screen at an angle over the card and spritzed with MERMAID, GRASSHOPPER and a few touches of FROSTED PLUM at opposing corners.

a few hints to remember when using the ColorBox® Archival Dye Ink Spritzers is to hold 8-10″” away and press the top quickly, moving the bottle across the page as you spritz –  for a nice even application of color.  the ink is VERY concentrated, so you’ll get a lot of color without having to do numerous applications. and for those great “splat” drops, hold the bottle closer to the page and press slowly. also remember to use theColor Catcher® to contain your spritzing and spraying. the Color Catcher® holds up well after dozens and dozens of use. the ink just dries on it and it gets more and more colorful.

once i had my background laid in, i started on the focal designs. i laid the NUMERIC Art Screen on an angle, placing the 45 where i wanted it on the card. then spritzed first using PUTTY, then again using PUMPKIN PIE. after the ink dried – which is pretty fast – i added a thick, rough outline around the numbers using a black pen…

the card needed some embellishments, so i found some chipboard stars that i’ve had FOREVER, and gave them a base spray of PUTTY, the spritzed with FROSTED PLUM, GRASSHOPPER, MERMAID and PUMPKIN PIE.

if i want to distress the edges of any of my papers of embellies, i usually reach for my ColorBox® Cat’s Eye Chalk Inks. but i had nice, inky ART SCREENS laying there waiting to be washed and i hated to waste all that ink. so i grabbed a ColorBox® Art Dauber dipped in the ink in several different places, picking up different colors, then used that to distress the edges of my chipboard and card, reinking the dauber as needed. i liked the result, it was a little more subtle than using a brown ink or solid coordinating ink color. AND, i didn’t just wash ink down the drain!

the stars needed a little sumpin’ sumpin’, so i grabbed some baker’s twine. but the white in it was TOO white, so i placed the pieces of twine in a paper and spritzed with PUTTY, then rubbed and squished the twine in the paper towel to distress it as well…

the final touch was some measuring tape washi tape, since the numbers for this b-day were consecutive, it seemed perfect to use as well.

  1. Fantastic card. I love how you got all the texture without loads of layers. The Art Screens are my favourites from this release.

  2. OK… I simply must have the pumpkin, mermaid, frosted plum, and grasshopper spray mists! You WILL have them with you at the class next week, right????
