mom & me pj crop…

i just noticed that the mom & me pj crop at SCRAPBOOK 911 was not on their web calendar, i’m not sure if it is on the paper calendar or not.  i apologize for not catching that sooner, but i DID want to let anyone who was interested know that we WILL be having the pj crop so PLEASE sign up if you’d like to come and crop with your child{ren}! it will be on thursday, july 8th from 5 to 9.  snacks are included {but dinner isn’t so please eat before you come or bring something with you!} the crop is priced at just $5 per person. moms must stay, and they can bring as many kids as they can supervise! so your kids can invite friends to crop with them if they like.

the wearing of your PJ’s is optional, but we sure had a lot of fun cropping in our jammies last month, here’s some photos…

there are also 2 other mom & me classes coming up in july:

first up is the “regular” mom & me class on saturday, july 10th from 10:00 to noon. you and your child will work together to make a set of card for various occasions.  they will be SO proud to give these cards because they made them themselves!

then, on  tuesday, july 20th  from 10:30 to 12:30 will be mom & me “our day out”. “our day out” is a special class for summer; by special request from the KIDS! BOTH you and your child will EACH have your OWN project to work on for ONE low price! this month, the kids will be making an altered composition book…

while the moms will be making a summer themed 2 page layout…

please e-mail me if you have any questions about any of these special “kid” classes!

mom and me class pics…

i have pics to share from my mom & me class this past saturday… we made a 6 X 6 “my year” album that the kids can fill up with photos from 2010.

the mom & me class has gotten SO BIG – that i’ve had to add another session for each class, so i now have both a morning and afternoon session each month! a BIG, HUGE thank you to all of you – kids AND moms – who have come every month {and all you new guys too} who have made that addition NECESSARY!

i’m having another class this month – the “key to my heart” wall decor for Valentine’s Day.  unfortunately, i believe that both sessions are already full. BUT – if you are interested, PLEASE go ahead and get on the wait list; there may be a cancellation! i may also be able to gather up some more supplies – although i know i don’t have any more of the giant keys and won’t be able to get my hands on any more.

next month’s project is a “friend’s word book“…

you can sign up for this class now! there will be both a morning and an afternoon session. i had purchased these books awhile back and was able to get my hands on a few more from SEI, but once they are gone – they are gone;  i won’t be able to get any more. i thought they’d be perfect for the kids to put pics of their friends in! the kiddos will get to be messy for this class – there is some shimmery, pearly paint involved! all the papers and ribbons are precut so all they have to do after the paint dries is glue and go!

there have been some requests to do some classes during SPRING BREAK so i have tentatively put 3 classes on the scrapbook 911 calendar. 2 classes WITHOUT moms {of course you can still come if you want to} and 1 class with moms. i’ve scheduled BOTH a morning and afternoon session for all 3 classes – again though – that’s tentative! i’ll be polling the january 30th mom and me classes to see what level of interest there is. if you ARE interested, please drop me a line or comment here too! the class would be the same format – 2 hours – working on 1 project. i was thinking of doing a squash mini album and maybe a paper bag mini album, but i’m not sure yet about the third project. i’m open to suggestions too!

thanks again everyone! i REALLY enjoy teaching this class; the kids are great and we all have a LOT of fun!

farmer’s market line * shabby green door *

i posted awhile back that DAISY BUCKET had a new division called SHABBY GREEN DOOR and that the first line they introduced was FARMER’S MARKET

well, i just received a shipment – “fresh from the farm” so to speak – of this new line! i really like the papers; reds, blues, greens and yellows done in tones and designs that remind me of 50’s calico fabrics — fresh, fun and soft from a few washings!

i needed to do a layout, but didn’t have just the right photos for it; fortunately for me, laura e. did! she had photos of her family out picking blueberries, and the colors went just PERFECT with the FARMER’S MARKET line. {THANKS LAURA!}

here’s the layout featuring: maddie, katie, adam and nathan…

fresh - 600

here are the basic instructions to scraplift this layout if you would like:

1) pieces of BLUEBERRY COBBLER, SWEET PEAS and STRAWBERRY JAM printed papers were collaged on the PRISM Kraft cardstock background…

2) “u-pick blueberries” from FRESH PICKED rub on was applied to stamped label. small rub-on blueberries were adhered with 3D dots. BLUEBERRY TWIST was tied around tag…

3) JOURNAL BLOCK stamp was stamped on BLUE RIBBON  RECIPE printed paper and cut out…

4) stickers from SPREAD JOY were layered – the strawberry and blueberry sticker was adhered to the center of the month sticker. then a small red rub on star from COUNTRY FAIR set was used to mark the month…

5) MARKET TYPESET chipboard alpha letters were inked with ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink – Bisque, then outlined with a white pen for the title…

6) “SWEET” strip is from SWEET PEAS printed paper…

7) flowers were made from ribbon, leaves were cut from AT THE MARKET printed paper, button centers complete them…

thanks again to laura for sharing her pictures with me!

FINALLY – i’m posting!

i KNOW it’s been awhile… but we were getting ready for vacation, then we were ON vacation, and then recovering from vacation, and THEN the kiddos started school! so i took about a month off from scrapbooking {except for a few assignments i snuck in!} so now, i’m trying to get caught up! i will be adding several posts today, and a few more later on this week… i’ve got some projects to share too!

first, i have something exciting to share; Clearsnap used 2 more of my layouts in their print ads this month!

there is a FULL PAGE ad in the BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS – Holiday Crafts; the layout for this ad features NICOLE PHELPS – Rocio Phelps’ daughter…

now… let’s talk about classes…

i have 2 coming up this saturday, first is a Sea World Mini Album which features the UNDER THE SEA line by REMINISCE

sw mini album

i have a few spaces left in this class, and may have kits available if the class doesn’t fill up!

afterwards, i have my Mom & Me class, but unfortunately, this class is COMPLETELY full! if you are interested, you can call and have them add you to the waitlist.

this class has been filling up the last few months, so PLEASE sign up early when you see somthing you like! since i have to have room for both the moms and the children – i’m limited to the number of spots i can offer.

i’ll give you a head start on september though, here is the project we will be doing:

school frame

you and your child will have a GREAT time working together on this frame that can hold their school picture and capture their faves for the year. you will get to select the grade for the paper and embellishment. this would make a GREAT gift for teachers or grandparents too!

and, hopefully SOME of you are suffering from withdrawls from Photo-Full, Sketch and Crop and Money $aving Sketches! LOL! if you are, you’ll be glad to know that i am back on the calendar with them all for september. BUT – the classes are NOT on their regular days due to the labor day holiday – so be SURE to check the SCRAPBOOK 911 CALENDAR for the dates!

well that’s it for this post! stay tuned for more!

only a year behind…

not with ALL my scrapbooking, just these 2 particular pictures! LOL!

i did these spring photos a few months back, but hadn’t posted them yet. NOW, the kiddos are getting their NEW spring photos! time sure flies! i guess if we ever caught up, then we wouldn’t know what to do with ourselves!

i have a lot of layouts scrapped, but not scanned yet, i am trying to find time to do that so i can have a gallery of my personal stuff on the blog too.

so, since you have to start somewhere, let’s start with these! maybe they’ll help if you have some spring pics of your own to scrap…

i have 2 classes coming up this saturday; there is still time to sign up for one or BOTH!

first up is my mom & me class – we are making a cute little mini album on a clipboard this time. you and your child will work together to complete the project and your child will get to select their own papers and embellishments!

30

class time is 8-23 from 10:00 to 12:30

next up is a mini album class… we’ll be making a fun and colorful acrylic mini album to hold some of your favorite summer photos! we’ll be using stickles and rhinestones to add some BLING!

00

class time is 8-23 from 1:00 to 4:00

also i wanted to share some photos from july’s mom & me class. we made a mini album and they all turned out GREAT! just click on the pic below, then hit slideshow for the best viewing!

july mom & me class

i did the mom & me classes over the summer and they were a LOT of fun! i am thinking of continuing them every month or possibly every other month. any input from YOU would be appreciated! i also welcome any other class ideas – so if there is a class you’d like to take, but don’t see offered, SPEAK UP!

i am also thinking about making kits available online every other month or so, again any input would be appreciated. i get comments on my classes from gals that aren’t from san antonio, and i thought it might be nice to offer them the opportunity to take some classes from a distance! nothing definite – but YOUR comments would be VERY helpful!

well, that’s it for now, i hope to work on some new projects for the blog on monday!

projects featuring products by GRAFIX!

i tried out some products by GRAFIX this week. They have some fun and unique items such as acrylic mini albums, chipboard pieces, shrink film, vellum and cling vinyl just to name a few.

first, i played with their vellums, they are a nice weight and a VERY crisp! the colors were nice and rich too. i made 2 cards…

the “thanks” card was made by folding a torn piece of vellum into the shape of a flower. then i used other small torn pieces to make the center of the flower, the stem and the leaves.

the “congrats” card was made by stamping a scroll pattern on a piece of vellum, then cutting it apart to make the strips at the top and bottom of the card. i used thin strips of black cardstock to add definition and make the hot pink of the vellum POP! rub on letters were used for the sentiment.

— stamps are from My Sentiments Exactly and the ink is from Clearsnap (ColorBox chalk ink) and the rub ons are by Reminisce.

next, i tried out some Funky Film! these fun papers are HOLOGRAPHIC! i am redecorating my 6 year old son’s room – he wants a Spiderman theme – so i thought i’d make a “C” and a door hanger for his door in colors to match. the film is easy to use, you can cut it with a paper trimmer, and it’s adhesive backed, so you just peel and stick it. i think it would be great for covering notebooks, frames, etc.

i painted the door hanger and letter black using acrylic paint, then added a coat of expresso dimensional pearls to get a silvery-dark grey color. next was the easy part, i just cut strips of aqua and red funky film in a variety of widths and stuck them on in no particular order or pattern. then i turned the pieces over and trimmed off any excess film using an exacto. some punched silver stars added the finishing touch.

— acrylic paint by making memories, dimensional pearls from ranger and wood door hanger and paper mache letter from Hobby Lobby.

then, i tried out the Metallic Foil – if you like BLING – you’ll love this stuff! it’s a little heavier than cardstock and you can diecut it or cut it by hand to any shape you wish. i used both techniques on these cards…

to make the monogram card, i diecut a “t” from the center of a piece of black cardstock. then i mounted the cardstock on a piece of silver metallic foil. next i rolled on the scroll design using the new Get Rollin’ tool from Clearsnap. i used a glue pad to stamp the design with, then sprinkled it with a black glittery embossing powder. after heat setting the powder, i mounted the silver foil piece on a black cardstock card.

to make the “hi” card, i adhered rhinestone flowers to pieces of red metallic foil, then cut around the flowers using scissors. i adhered a rectangle of black cardstock to the front of a white cardstock ard, then i cut out a small rectangle of silver metallic foil and mounted it to the card. next i adhered the cut out flowers, using a 3D dot to adhere one of the bottom ones. chipboard letters were used for the sentiment and i used stickles to fill in the centers of the flowers.

— stamps are by My Sentiments Exactly, Get Rollin’ tool by Clearsnap, glue pad from Superior – Palette, embossing powder from Sugarloaf, rhinestone flowers from Hobby Lobby, chipboard letters by American Crafts and Stickles by Ranger

and finally, i HAD to try the Cling Vinyl. i think i had the most fun with this product simply because of the easy of use. you just cut, peel and stick – it “clings” to acrylic, glass, metals, ceramics, plastics and probably some other things i haven’t thought of yet! you can cut it by hand or diecut it. i was lazy and diecut all my pieces in these 2 projects…

for the jar project, i didn’t use anything fancy, just a jelly jar i had on hand. i think it would make a nice teacher or co-worker gift. you could fill it with anything you liked! i just diecut flowers and stuck them on the jar – NO messy glues – LOVE it! i used small circles for the flower centers and polka dots. a piece of fabric tied around the top and some ribbons completed the project.

next, i found a frame in the kid’s summer craft clearance section. it didn’t look like much, it was just a cheap plastic frame with a coloring page insert. it was designed for kids to take the frame apart, color the insert, then stick it back in to customize their frame. i figured i could use the insert for a template to cut a piece of pattern paper to replace the color-me insert. then i diecut flowers and centers as well as a quote mark. it was quick and easy to stick them on there and it looks a LOT better than the color-me version would have! LOL!

— fabric, ribbon and frame from Hobby Lobby.

i think a lot of these projects would be great to do with your kiddos and all of the products are pretty kid friendly too. so if you want to stay inside where it is cool during the dog days of summer, you might consider making some of these things – or coming up with ideas of your own – with your kids. i think the cling vinyl would be especially fun for them since it is so easy to use and they could embellish a variety of items quickly and easily using it.

pics from mom & me class…

today i taught my first “mom & me” class at scrapbook 911; we were making a beach ball out of paper to display fun summer photos!

rocio brought her daughter nicole…

 ruth brought her daughter shannon…

and my mom – bonnie, brought my youngest son christopher…

the kids seemed to get into the project which began with them deciding which of their photos to use. then they had to build the beachball, piece by piece (lots of STICKY glue!) and decorate it with stickers and punches and diecuts that they got to select and cut themselves.

nicole had the idea to add some of the flower punches to her flip flops! what a great idea!

everyone’s project turned out great!

we’ll be making a mini album at the next class in july…

hope to see ya there!

p.s.: special thanks to linda for loaning me the die for this project and to rocio for loaning me her camera to take these pics!
