{school years} altered book class info…

the sample book for the {school years} altered book class is FINISHED and has been dropped off at Scrapbook n’ More in new braunfels. YAY!!!

this book is FULL of fabulous vintage finds: cool 40’s skinny pencils, 60’s plastic apple charms, HUGE 6 X 8 phonics cards from the 30’s, flash cards from the 30’s – 50’s, vintage game pieces and MORE! there are also some custom chipboard pieces featuring some fabulous vintage school related ephemera.

the book will be a wonderful way to display not only your child’s school photo through the years, but also their school work and art pieces. each year has a pocket for placing these treasures – you can scan and shrink to fit more in. there are also places for notes and a mini folder at the end that can hold more special momentos.

a great graduation gift idea for not only the graduate, but maybe mom or grandmom.

if you haven’t taken any of my altered book classes before, this is a good one to start with. once you learn the process, most of the book is repetition. if you are an “altered book veteran”, you’ll enjoy learning some new techniques featured in this book.

here are some pics of the finished book…

new class!

i have just added a brand new class to the calendar at SCRAPBOOK 911…

here are some photos of my “countdown to Christmas shadowbox”…

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

who doesn’t get excited about Christmas? who doesn’t count the days til it’s time to open all the gifts? this calendar will make it easy to keep track of the days; just move the little mini Christmas tree from window to window to count down the days.

inks, stamps, paint, vintage goodies and papers & embellies by Teresa Collins have all been used to create this project.

start a new tradition at your house, or continue to celebrate the “countdown” tradition with a new calendar this year. you’ll be proud to show off this Christmas project year after year.

the class is scheduled for saturday, october 23 from 1:00 to 5:30. space is very limited due to limited supplies, so please call SCRAPBOOK 911 to sign up or for more info.

walking in a winter wonderland…

well, really i was walking down the aisle of my local mike’s when i found a little wood snowflake set that i thought would be PERFECT for me to  alter!

i decided to try my Smooch Spritzes out on them and was VERY happy with the result! the spritzes covered the wood very well and the colors were SO vivid and SO shimmery! and not that the snowflakes really needed any more  “bling”, but it IS the season to “bling-it-up”, so i reached for some glitter.

i took photos while i worked on the project, so you can see some step-by-steps in the slideshow below. as a “bonus”, since we are ALL busy and multi-tasking is essential… if you lay you snowflakes on a piece of white cardtsock while you spray them, you’ll be left with a BEAUTIFUL negative of them to use for a card or to decorate a gift bag!

here is a photo of the finished project and a list of the supplies used:

Supplies: Michael’s: wood snowflake set, CLEARSNAP: Smooch Spritz: Frosted Grape, Silver Foil and Electric Blue and Winter Frost: Glitter, Deco Art: Triple Thick Crystal Clear Glaze {formarly made by Krylon}, Creative Impressions: Bead Chain and foam brushes.

if you have created something special for the holidays please send a pic of it to me; i’d love to see it!

wanna piece of Tim Holtz???

well, maybe not an actual piece of Tim, but how about the next best thing, a project HANDMADE by Tim?

i neglected to post this earlier, but it is NOT too late to get in on the action – auction – err… both!

Tim Holtz has VERY generously donated a gorgeous mini album, PERSONALLY crafted by him, to benefit the Guide Dogs of Texas. He even sent a photo of himself WITH the book so you can SHOW all your friends ACTUAL PROOF, that the book was made by him!

the book is being auctioned off by silent auction at Scrapbook 911 here in san antonio. you can call in a bid with a credit card i believe. the deadline for bids is december 16 at 8:00 PM – SHARP! please call or e-mail them or me for more details if needed. they have info about the auction on their blog  too. they are also auctioning off LOTS of other terrific handmade projects too, so if you still have some holiday shopping to do, you might just consider bidding on one of the fabulous items they have. AND, the proceeds all go to benefit Guide Dogs of Texas!

another Christmas layout…

how are your Christmas preparations going? i was doing SO well on mine but hit stall mode sometime last week! i just can’t seem to kick it into high gear. i’ve got so much to do that i’m overwhelmed – but then it’s like that every year!

i DID have a productive time at Scrapbook 911’s retreat this past weekend. i was working on the pics from my last Disney trip and managed to get ALL the pics scrapped, over 120 of them! i did 13 -2 page layouts and 1 – 1 pager. I was pretty proud of myself! i used the Real Magic line from Reminisce. I have plans to scan & share them in a later post.

i haven’t done my Christmas cards yet either – i always tell myself i’ll do them in the summer when i have PLENTY of time, but do i ever actually do that? NO! LOL! i do think we’ll get the tree and decorations up this weekend though, that will make me feel a little better.

i DO have another Christmas layout to share as well. this one uses Happy Holidays by Fancy Pants…

well – gotta go! lot’s to do!

jingle bells… jingle bells…

it’s that time of year again… Christmas is RIGHT around the corner and there are a multitude of things to do and preparations to make BEFORE it arrives!

the days of the year always seem to C—R—E—E—P up to Halloween almost like they are on an uphill incline, then WHOOSH! after Halloween, the days just FLY by, like they are tied to a sled heading downhill! LOL!

i’ve already begun some of my shopping, but not much, and i’ve been working on trying to get my house in order so i can start decorating. and in between that, i’ve been teaching and selling on e-bay! (gotta get the xtra Christmas $$$ somewhere!) it’s been VERY busy already.

BUT – knowing that i WOULD be busy about this time, i scanned some of the sample Christmas layouts that i did for Scrapbook 911, and i’ll be sharing them with you!

here’s 2; the first one doesn’t really count, as i’ve shared it before, it’s one i did for Reminisce, but i’m posting it again in case you missed it the first time!

joy-layout-reminiscepapers are from Reminisce’s Christmas Basics line

This layout uses papers from Basic Gray’s Wassail line

I’ll have a few more for you before the holidays!

REMINISCE has just released 2 new lines: CHRISTMAS BASICS and REAL MAGIC 2008!!!

The Christmas Basics is just what the name suggests – a basic line to use for your Christmas cards, layouts or projects. in “traditional” red, green and white colors with “traditional” holiday icons – snowflakes, holly, ornaments, etc. done in VERY un-traditional glitters, shimmers and diecut shapes with fresh and fun designs! it’s time to get started on your holiday crafting, so get a jump start with this fabulous new line!

Here are 2 projects i made using CHRISTMAS BASICS:

holly and poinsettia Christmas wreath

"joy" layout

the other new line, REAL MAGIC 2008 is a Dis*ey themed line (we’d need a copyright to add the missing “n” -snicker!) if you have pics of a Dis*ey trip to scrap or want to create a Dis*ey themed project, then THIS is the line for you! it’s all covered, the rides, the parades, the characters, the fireworks and even specific items like tomorrowland and animal kingdom – there are papers and embellies for them ALL! and yes, these papers are all blinged up with sparkle too! shimmers, and glitters and such.

i made a pin box to hold Chris’ treasured lanyard and pin collection:

"my pins" - Disney collectible pin box

the other gals on the Reminisce dt will be posting their projects in the gallery in the next few days, so be sure to check them out. Reminsice also just welcomed a BRAND NEW member to the design team; Angela Ploegman. She has some great ideas – her winning projects are posted on the blog, they are REALLY awesome so you’ll want to take a peek!

p.s.: scrapbook 911 just got the Christmas Basics line in a few days ago. hurry on over if you want some, you KNOW how quick the new lines sell out!
