{school years} altered book class

hi all!

i am still recovering from my fabulous by fast nyc trip – more pics soon.

but really not much time for rest as i’m prepping for the {school years} altered book class THIS sunday!

i was working on the custom chipboard pieces last night, cutting them all out and giving them their last coat of matte sealer. i think the fumes gave me a little something extra last night! lol!

papers are all cut, ribbons and embellies on the schedule tonight.

there are still a few spots left in this class, you can call scrapbook n’ more for more info or to sign up…

{school years} altered book class info…

the sample book for the {school years} altered book class is FINISHED and has been dropped off at Scrapbook n’ More in new braunfels. YAY!!!

this book is FULL of fabulous vintage finds: cool 40’s skinny pencils, 60’s plastic apple charms, HUGE 6 X 8 phonics cards from the 30’s, flash cards from the 30’s – 50’s, vintage game pieces and MORE! there are also some custom chipboard pieces featuring some fabulous vintage school related ephemera.

the book will be a wonderful way to display not only your child’s school photo through the years, but also their school work and art pieces. each year has a pocket for placing these treasures – you can scan and shrink to fit more in. there are also places for notes and a mini folder at the end that can hold more special momentos.

a great graduation gift idea for not only the graduate, but maybe mom or grandmom.

if you haven’t taken any of my altered book classes before, this is a good one to start with. once you learn the process, most of the book is repetition. if you are an “altered book veteran”, you’ll enjoy learning some new techniques featured in this book.

here are some pics of the finished book…

{school years} altered book class

hello!

i have started work on my {school years} altered book class!

the papers for the book will be from Graphic 45’s ABC PRIMER collection.

i began pulling pieces and parts from my “junque” stash to use for this book; below is a collage pic of what i’ve selected so far…

collage (1024x512)

i have more goodies to add and i don’t know if all of the above items WILL be included, but i’ll do my best to get as much as i can in!

i think the front cover will have a chalkboard on it, but not sure of the size as yet. i’m playing with a few different sizes and styles.

i am hoping to get the sample book done in the next week or so and will be posting pictures when it is finished.

now, some of the details:

i had scheduled this class with Scrapbook N’ More for may 2 a few months back. unfortunately, neither of us realized that was National Scrapbook Day. susan is planning crops for that weekend, so the class needed to be moved. so it has been rescheduled for may 3. the good news is that if you would like to make a nice long weekend of cropping and crafting, you can plan on attending the crops and staying for the class. you may leave your supplies there for the duration if you attend all events.

i have not set a time or cost yet, but will do so soon. there will also be some info coming on payment and cancellation periods for the altered book classes. you can begin signing up for this class on april 1; i should have all the details set by then.

if you are interested in this class, please sign up as soon as possible on or after april 1. going forward, i will not be adding spaces to my altered book classes. it is very difficult, time consuming and usually costly, to try and locate and purchase more of the unique items i use for these books. it also creates extra work and confusion for the store. whatever quantities i have on hand will determine class size.

thanks for the continued interest in this class series…

you can find the supply list for the class here: SUPPLY LIST, it is also posted on the Scrapbook n’ More’s facebook page.

you can find the supply lists for my classes, usually at least a week before the class, on the right sidebar of my blog, right under my photo. the list is headed as “class photos, descriptions and supplies”. just click on the class you are interested in and scroll through the page there to find all the class info.

if you are attending the class, remember that the store will be opening at 1:00, so if you’d like to come a little early and shop, please do! susan is opening the store JUST FOR US for this class, so if you’d like some “private” shopping time, plan on coming in a little early or staying a little later to shop. the store should be open by 1:00, so drop off your stuff in the back and hit the racks!

it’s here! {HOLLY JOLLY} Christmas Altered Book!

it’s FINALLY done! and just like Santa, this one is FAT!

i’ve just finished putting the finishing touches on the Christmas Altered Book – {Holly Jolly}. i pulled a LOT of goodies for this book and BELIEVE me, i tried my best to cram as many of them in as i could! papers by Graphic 45twas the night before christmas.

if you are wanting a “skinny” santa book, then skip this class. but if you like your book like “fat” santa, then you DEFINITELY want to sign up! i raided my VAST vintage Christmas stash and have included lots of little treasures and trinkets. some of the original items you get include: a 20’s feather tree mercury glass miniature ornament, a vintage christmas postcard – most date from 1900 to 1910, a cute plastic glitter bell from the 5o’s, christmas seals from the 30’s-50’s, silver foil bell seals from the 30’s and vintage ornament hooks from the 30’s-40’s. this book is like an overstuffed stocking!

here’s pics of the book…

book cover and side views

and here is a collage of closeups pics of some of the details…

{EERILY ENCHANTED} altered book – FINALLY DONE!!!

it’s done! it’s done! i feel like i’ve given birth to another child! LOL!

i don’t remember working so hard on an altered book. i really wanted this halloween book to be different and to reflect the personality of G45’s Eerie Tales collection.

it is JAM packed with goodies; i used everything i could in this one! i hope you will like what i’ve done, here it is…

eerily enchanted collage 1

you can click on the collages to enlarge them.

i’ll be adding all the supply deets and such tomorrow, so you’ll be able to start prepping for class.

i’d like to say “thank you” again to all of you who signed up early for this book. it allowed me to be able to take my time creating it, and it also allowed me to pull and bag supplies as i went. which is a HUGE time saver when prepping for a MASSIVE class like this.

i hope the book lives up to your expectations and LONG anticipation during the design process.

there are still a few spots left in the class, so if you haven’t signed up yet and would like to, please call Scrapbook n’ More at (830) 214-1690 to sign up.

i also appreciate all the nice, encouraging comments about all the little peeks and snippets – they helped keep me going during SEVERAL LONG NIGHTS of putting this book together.

thoughts on upcoming altered books…

i’ve been checking out new paper lines and considering them for upcoming altered book classes.

one subject that keeps being requested is pet, so i was excited to hear about g45’s new Raining Cats and Dogs collection – and i love it – and the colors are great for most pets – BUT…

and there is a but, i think this collection would work well for people with both cats and dogs. i don’t think it would work for those who are strictly dog or strictly cat people. the papers feature both dogs and cats together, there isn’t “cat” paper and “dog” paper. so unfortunately, i will still be hunting for a pet collection to use. if you see one you like, drop me a note and i’ll check it out.

as for christmas, since there seemed to be enough interest for both a halloween AND christmas book this year. again, i was both excited by and a little disappointed by g45’s twas the night before christmas collection. there are only 8 papers instead of the usual 12 in the collection, and although i love the colors, and the more 50’s style santa {that is my FAVORITE decade for the vintage christmas goodies i collect), i’m just not sure there is enough paper choices. but i DO have tons and TONS of vintage christmas, so i may be able to supplement with ephemera that i have. i am going to print of swatches and sit down and play with it. i would like to use it as it would have a very different look from the other christmas books we’ve done so far. if you have an opinion on this collection – i’d love to hear it. i don’t believe authentique has released a new christmas collection yet – they are another company i like to work with.

other suggested subjects are: family, recipe and texas – at least those are the requests i get most often. if you have some suggestions for themes, please let me hear them!

off to bed, it’s been a LONG WEEK and i have a LOT of work to do this weekend – including an altered book to finish :)
