san marcos CKC…

i found out this week that i WILL be teaching at CKC SAN MARCOS

i’m teaching the same classes at CKC san marcos that i will be teaching at CKC houston. so if you were interested in my classes but couldn’t make it to houston, you’ll get a second chance at them in san marcos.

in my photofull layout class, you’ll make 2 – 2 page layouts that will EACH hold 12 photos – or more! you’ll have to take the class to find out where and how the rest of the photos are “hidden”…

my other class will be a mini album class – “life is good” mini album, we’ll use the UNWRITTEN line by REMINISCE to embellish this mini book i designed using file folders…

sign ups started today, so go to the ckc site for all the info, you can see the class info HERE.

upcoming classes…

i have been neglecting adding my class info to my blog as of late. i didn’t realize how far behind i was until i noticed that the last classes i listed were in february! i am usually pretty good at keeping that info current!

so, i have now updated my classes until the end of april! here’s a peek at what’s coming up…

mom & me classes:

i am thrilled with the response to this class; it continues to grow and we are adding new little scrappers each and every month. i decided to try some classes during spring break, we had the first of 2 classes today – a “spring is in the air” paper bag mini album. the kids had a great time learning how to turn plain lunch bags into a cute little mini album that they embellished with paper and stamps. i think they enjoyed the stamping the most! the next class will be THURSDAY, MARCH 18, the project will be “MY FAVORITES”, recipe holder…

then, on SATURDAY, MARCH 27, we’ll have both a morning and afternoon class where we’ll be making a mini album shaped like a basket for Easter…

in april, we’ll be doing a fiesta-inspired project; on SATURDAY, APRIL 3, we’ll be turning a plain white box into a “MI FAMILIA” shadowbox, where you can display a family photo {maybe from FIESTA!}. the kids will be learning several new techniques in this class; one of which is how to turn a piece of plain embossed cardstock into a Mexican pottery-inspired “printed paper”. most Mexican handcrafts begin as some sort of material that would have been otherwise thrown away. so we’ll be using that same principal to turn cast-offs into a piece of art! {one of the reasons the class is priced so LOW this time ;) }

book classes:

i have 2 book classes coming up and they are both on the same day – but at 2 different stores!

the date is SATURDAY, APRIL 10…

first, i’ll be at SCRAPBOOK 911 to teach my “BLESSINGS BOOK” from 10:00 to 1:30. this book features lots of pockets {hidden and otherwise} and lots of journaling spots so that you can record all the good things that happen to you! you can also tuck clippings, letters or notes that you find inspirational. then, when you need a little “lift”, you can pull out your book and remember all those good little bits and words! this book would also make a thoughtful gift for mother’s day, or for a friend or relative that might need a little BOOST!

then, i’ll be packing up and heading over to STAMP ANTONIO from 3:30 to 6:00 for my “MOTHER’S DAY MINI BOOK”. this sweet little 6 X 6 mini book features handmade, lace trimmed canvas covers {made by yours truly}. you’ll learn how to distress the canvas with paint and inks and we’ll also be collaging on it to create our front cover. the pages will be embellished with printed papers and ephemera by GECKO GALS {formerly HARLEE QUINNZ}. i’ll also be teaching you how to use SMOOCH accent inks on your stamps to create beautiful, shimmery “watercolor” images. the featured stamp set we will use is also by GECKO GALZ.

layout classes:

my daytime classes – SKETCH and CROP and MONEY $AVING $KETCHES, both include a sketch {a drawing of a layout} that include as many larger-size {3 X 5 – 4 X 6} photos that i can figure out how to put on them! most sketch books don’t include layouts with more that 3 or 4 – 4 X 6 photos, most have photos that have to be cropped WAY down. i try to provide you with sketches that work for the layouts YOU want to do – LOTS of photos!

for both classes, you need to bring photos so you can select papers to go with them, OR you can bring your own papers and cardstock with you to do the layouts with.m {the $8 class fee for both of these classes does not cover supplies}.

in SKETCH and CROP, you’ll get one sketch that you can copy as many times as you like in this 4 hour class. you can also bring other projects that you might need help on, we usually spend the first 2 hours doing the first sketch, then after that, you can crop – with me to assist if you need it – for the rest of the class.

in MONEY $AVING $KETCHES, you’ll get TWO sketches! we’ll make the first one, then use the leftovers {along with a few more pieces of cardstock} to create another whole layout!

in each class, you’ll get a copy of the sketch with all the dimensions, directions, and sample photos to keep and use over and over again. we have a lot of fun in these daytime classes, and the ladies GET THINGS DONE! most leave with several layouts FINISHED!

evening class – PHOTOFULL, in this class we concentrate on how to scrap those events with LOTS of photos; birthdays, Christmas, Easter, etc. in each class, i create a 2-page layout with some type of flip, fold, pocket, etc. that will allow you to get 12+ photos – FULL SIZE photos on it! we usually get MORE than 12, 18 is about average! so if you have some BIG stacks of photos to scrap, you need to come and try out this class! most students leave with their layouts 80-100% DONE! be sure to bring your photos so you can select your papers to match. supplies ARE included in this class.

well, that’s about it for now! i think i’m up to date now!

thank all of you for your interest in my classes, i appreciate it!

i {HEART} the new G45…

since i LOVE all things vintage, i couldn’t wait to get my hands on the new GRAPHIC 45 lines…

they introduced 3 new lines at CHA, but my FAVE is ON THE BOARDWALK! it features people in vintage bathing attire, coney island and bathing beauty “postcards” and other terrific ephemera images in shades of “aged” teals and corals.

i was SO happy when the collections arrived at SCRAPBOOK 911, so i immediately pulled some papers to do a sample layout with. i know some people think that the G45 papers are hard to work with due to trying to work around the images. but i always just start by deciding on which images i want to work with and then i cut them out – come on – it’s not THAT hard to cut out the images – think about paper dolls when you were a little girl. after i’ve got the images i want, i start laying them out on the “small patterned” sides of the papers to see which i want to use as a background. i want the images to POP, so i want them to REALLY contrast with the background papers so they’ll stand out. next, i decide which papers – again from the “small patterned” sides that i want to use as mats.

after i’ve made those choices, i just begin moving the pieces around until i’m happy with the layout. although i DO love all the images, i also want to put PHOTOS on the layouts, so i usually add images around the perimeter collage-style, and leave the center open for mats and photos.

here’s the layout i came up with for ON THE BOARDWALK, i’ve titled it “bathing beauties”…

i’m sorry it doesn’t have photos on it yet – they’ll go on the large aqua and black patterned mats. i know i have photos of my grandmother and my aunts in bathing suits from the 20’s or 30’s that will be perfect for the layout though.

i didn’t want to bring the layout home to scan it, so i just took a photo, i know it’s not perfect, but you’ll get the idea!

if you would like to make this layout here are the supplies you need:

1 sheet each of the following: Bathing Beauties, By the Beautiful Sea, She Sells Seashells, Seaside Chic, High Style Holiday, Summer Crush, On the Boardwalk, Coney Island and On the Boardwalk Border Sheet.

Here are a few closeup shots of the details:

SKETCH & CROP is one of my daytime classes; i design a sketch for a 2 page layout, and you get to select the paper to make it TWICE! so you leave with 2 – 2 page layouts! after you finish your layouts, you can “crop” and i’ll be there to help you with ideas or paper choices.

PHOTO-FULL is in the evening; this class is geared towards getting more FULL SIZE photos on your pages! we’ll do a 2 page layout with some kind of flip, fold, pocket or other paper magic that will INCREASE the amount of space for photos on the 2 page layout we’ll be doing!

BE SURE to bring your photos if you come to either class, as you select your own paper for both!

UPDATE on November 21st classes:

upcoming classes…

hi all!

i’ve gotten a bit behind – AGAIN, and i’m JUST now getting my classes for october posted…

coming up tomorrow, monday, i have 2 classes: SKETCH & CROP and PHOTOFULL.

SKETCH & CROP is a daytime class and it runs from 9:30 to 1:30. i provide you with a sketch of a 2 page layout, and you get to make TWO – TWO page layouts from the sketch. sometimes there are little surprises; like i’ll diecut shapes or letters for you, or maybe you’ll get to use some BLING paper, or you might even get to make MORE layouts!

PHOTOFULL is a class designed for all those PESKY events that you have photos GALORE for! christmas, easter, b-days, trips, etc.. we get as MANY full size photos on your pages as we POSSIBLY can, using flips, folds, pockets and other little tricks.

YOU get to select your OWN papers for both of these classes, which is included in the cost of the class, so that your layout can look like YOU want it to! you are encouraged to bring photos to both of these classes.

later on this month, on 10-19, which is also a monday, i’ll be teaching MONEY $AVING $KETCHES… it is another daytime class that runs from 9:30 to 12:30. this class is designed to help you get the most out of your supplies. we’ll cut once and then use what we’ve cut to make at least TWO – TWO page layouts with the sketches i provide.  sometimes are able to make three or MORE two-pagers! this class really teaches you how to S-T-R-E-T-C-H your papers and therefore save a few $$$’s!

it’s not too late to sign up for either of these 2 classes, just call SCRAPBOOK 911 to get your name on the list!

also, i put out 2 new kits at SCRAPBOOK 911:

pretty kitzoo kit

and i’ll leave you with some photos from yesterday at my MOM & ME class; we were making a BOO-t-full wall hanging using the new TRICK or TREAT line by REMINISCE. all the kids had a good time, and i was REALLY impressed with their creativity. they all came up with something FUN and UNIQUE to make their project stand out! i only wish i’d remembered to get the camera out sooner! i missed getting a pic of a few of my jr. crafters :(

i hope to see YOU at one of these classes! if you have any questions about these classes, please e-mail me!

upcoming classes for JUNE…

i have 6 classes coming up in june – hopefully i’ll see you at one of them!

first i have 2 classes tomorrow – monday, june 1 – at SCRAPBOOK 911

in the morning, i’ll be teaching my SKETCH & CROP class. i provide you with a sketch, and you get to make TWO, 2 page layouts. be sure to bring your photos, and i’ll be able to help you select papers if you need me to. after the “class” portion, you can stay for the “crop” portion and work on whatever you would like – cards, projects or more layouts. i’ll be acting as “hostess”,  just like on the friday nite crops, so i can help you ideas if you need a little nudge to get you going!

then in the evening, i have PHOTO-FULL. if you haven’t tried this class, i’d challenge you to give it a whirl! it’s a whole different way of looking at a two page layout. i’ll show you how to get a LOT more photos on the page than with a traditional layout, and i mean more BIG size photos, not cropped to tiny bits photos! my goal is always 15 or more photos on a page. be sure to bring your photos as you get to chose your own papers. you’ll leave with a finished layout, directions for the layout so you can copy it again if you like, AND fresh ideas to use on your other pages!

then on saturday, june 6, i’ll be at STAMP ANTONIO. i’ll be teaching a card class featuring the new SMOOCH ink by CLEARSNAP

smooch class cards

we’ll make 3 cards, each using a different technique. you’ll leave with the cards, and some new ideas on how to use this new product!

then on saturday, june 13, it’ll be back at SCRAPBOOK 911 with 2 more classes.

in the morning, i’ll be teaching a layout class featuring SMOOCH! we’ll be making a beautiful 2 page layout that would be suitable for any special occasion or photos; weddings, mother, daughter, grandmother, new baby, baptism and more.

we’ll be doing some basic stamping and embossing – but don’t let that scare you! it’s easy to do and i can show you how if you haven’t tried these techniques before.

here’s a snippet from the layout {you can see the whole layout at Scrapbook 911, it’s hanging on the “class wall”}

smooch layout

then, my MOM & ME class is in the afternoon…

in this class, you work with your child to make a fun and unique project. this month we’ll be making a special book just for dad {or grandad} for father’s day.

be SURE to bring your photos! special shots of the kiddos and dad or grandad would be a perfect choice!

this class is geared to kids ages 6 to 12, but older kids and “unaccompanied” adults are welcome too!

mom and me - dad maand finally, on monday, june 15, i have my SKETCH & MORE class at SCRAPBOOK 911. this will be the LAST SKETCH & MORE CLASS!!! but for those of you who liked this daytime class, don’t dispare – as i’m “morphing” it into a new and exciting daytime class that i think you will like even BETTER! look for more details coming soon! the new class will be on the july calendar! i do hope you will still make plans to attend this class, and give it a nice send off into “class heaven”! LOL! we’ll be making a two page layout using your choice of papers and my sketch, and then, we’ll be making another project using the leftover supplies from the layout.

that’s it for june! please e-mail me if you have any questions about any of my classes. otherwise, just call the respective store to sign up!

projects to share!

i am WAY past due with sharing a few of these!

i have asked for in past posts, and received, some of YOUR projects that you wanted to share…

the first project comes from denesa, she made this layout in one of my photo-full classes…

[rockyou id=138268174&w=426&h=320]

i think she did a great job; the colors go so well with the photos, and her son nicholas {who i hear is gonna be a BIG brother come dec} is just ADORABLE! i love the family pics in the shark’s teeth!

next up are 2 layouts from sandee…

sandees pages cropped

she did these layouts in my sketch and more class. again, the colors work so well with the photos, and you get an island feel from them too!

last, i have a mini album from sarah…

[rockyou id=138267827&w=600&h=200]

sarah has a new daughter and wanted to make a special mini album of some newborn photos for her mother. she saw a mini album made from envelopes on my blog, and decided to make her own. her mom likes to garden, so her each of her envelopes contain a pack of seeds! what a thoughtful gift! i think the album turned out great!

thank all 3 of you for sharing your projects with me, and for letting me share them on my blog too!

if you have a project you’d like to share, please e-mail me!

upcoming classes…

tomorrow – monday, i have 2 classes scheduled at Scrapbook 911: Sketch & Crop in the morning, and Photo-Full in the evening. if you NEED to get some layouts DONE, i’d encourage you to try out one of these 2 classes. you get to select your OWN papers for both classes, so be sure to bring your photos with you!

on saturday, i have a rick rack flower class. i’ll teach you how to make several different flowers using rick rack, and then we’ll use the flowers to embellish a 2 page layout. so you’ll leave with the instructions for the flowers – so you can make some more on your own, as well as a finished layout ready for your photos!

it’s not too late to sign up for any of these classes; you can call SCRAPBOOK 911 to sign up or for more info.

disney layouts!!!

well, i think i mentioned awhile back that i had been working on getting my disney trip pics scrapped and posted…

— SO  guess what!  i have both trips scrapped (thanks to two 24-3 retreats at scrapbook 911) and one album uploaded and ready for your viewing pleasure!

this first set of layouts is from our very first trip to disney – we took drew to disneyland for his 10th birthday in 2007. i can’t believe i managed to fit almost ALL the photos (and i really used pretty much EVERY single photo that i WANTED to use!) on 13 layouts! but as you can see from the layouts they are JAM packed with photos!

at first i was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of photos we took that had to be scrapped, so if you are in the same boat, here are some hints that i found helpful:

1) if you haven’t already printed your pics, and they are digital, try the smaller 4 X 5.3 digital format version. although they are slightly smaller than 4 X 6 pics,  you actually get MORE photo!  by that i mean by getting the true digital size, you don’t loose any of your photo to autocropping like you do with 4 X 6. AND — since they are a little smaller, you can sneak more on a page.

2) break your photos down by event — character signing, flight, hotel, dinners, etc, or by section of the park — tomorrowland, toontown, etc… then make a stack for each and label.

3) then go through each stack and put any “duplicate” photos together – the same shot just at different angle, or a closeup and one from a distance; pics that are basically of the same subject. then look through the “duplicates” and see which ones you can eliminate. Is one sharper than the rest? does one have more members of your “party” in it? are 3 just alike except for facial expressions. this is a good time to get rid of any really out of focus or dark photos too – unless it’s the only shot you have of something.

4) FINALLY, try to lay out the photos from each weeded stack on 2 – 12 X 12 pages. are there any you can crop down? can the photos all fit on a 2 page layout? are there any you don’t need? are there enough to make 2 – 2 page layouts?

— if you take it step by step, and break the photos down into groups, it makes it MUCH easier to scrap them.

my biggest hint though – and it is a REAL time and $$$ saver… is to decide on a color scheme and /or a set of papers and embellishments you want to work with and use them for the entire event. i like to do “theme” albums; Christmas, vacations, etc. using the same color scheme throughout. to me it unifies the pages and makes the event all go together. plus, it is much easier to scrap a BIG pile of photos, if you aren’t spending time trying to find paper and embellishments for each particular set of photos. and it’s cheaper too – since you can use leftover scraps from one page, to use on the next one! just gather your choice of papers, cardstocks and embellishments (ribbons, stickers, chipboard letters, etc.) and make sure everything coordinates. this is a good time to track down old supplies too – look through your stash and pull out anything that goes with the color scheme you’ve picked – don’t foget to pull out paints, pens and inks too.

for my pages, i used papers and embellishments from the REAL MAGIC and REAL MAGIC 2008 lines byREMINISCE, mixed with red, yellow, black and white cardstocks. rub on letters are also from Reminisce – from their FONT BUFFET line. chipboard and foam letters are mostly THICKERS from AMERICAN CRAFTS. i also pulled out some ribbons, stickles, paints and inks in coordinating colors too. surrounded by my mass of coordinated goodies, it was easy to grab stuff and design my layouts using them. i started all my layouts the same though, just photos placed on 2 blank pieces of white cardstock. i cropped and played with photo placement, then added in printed papers, cardstock and embellishments.

so without any further ado… here is my first disney “album”; i hope you enjoy it and are inspired to get busy on your own pages! and PLEASE — feel free to scraplift if you see anything you like!
