{merry} christmas canvas on the TCW blog…

hello!

are you getting things checked off your holiday list? mine are being ticked off VERY SLOWLY! Christmas seems to come faster and faster every year. the more i try to be prepared, the less prepared i feel!

i did manage to finish a canvas that i started in my altered canvas class last month. it even has a PHOTO on it! we went to a tree farm and found a very fat, very “crazy” Christmas tree! it is definitely different, but that is why we liked it. i snapped a photo of the hubbie and kids standing in front of it before we chopped it down. it went perfect with the canvas colors {i wonder how THAT happened – surely i didn’t select the clothes JUST to match the canvas – or did i! LOL!}

here is a pic of the finished canvas…

you can view the post about this project on The Crafter’s Workshop Blog here: {MERRY} ALTERED CANVAS.

if you visit the TCW BLOG, please post a comment there so i’ll know you stopped by!

thanks, and if i don’t get a chance to post again…

have a merry CHRISTmas…

creative canvas class

hi!

i’ve finished the sample for the Creative Canvas Class and dropped it by Scrapbook N’ More today. coincidentally, susan was pricing and stocking a HUGE order of stencils from The Crafter’s Workshop! lots of GREAT designs!

here are the deets for the class:

date: saturday, nov. 8

time: 12:00 to 4:30

cost: $35

supplies: 4X6 or 5 X 5 photo, zip dry or 3-in-1 glue {or both if you have them}, 3D foam squares or tape andu heat gun {there will be a few heat guns you can use in class, but you’ll be doing a LOT of drying, so bring your own if you have one!}

and here is my sample canvas, along with some closeup shots of the details – you can click on it to enlarge…

ccc collage

YOUR canvas won’t look just like mine – unless you want it to. YOU will select your own ink colors, stencils and accessories to create your own UNIQUE canvas. before you start on your own canvas, i’ll show you some simple techniques so you can learn how to add layers of ink and patterns to add depth to your project and we’ll also work on techniques for adding texture.

i have DOZENS of stencils in all sorts of designs, patterns and themes from The Crafter’s Workshop for you to use…

ccc - stencils (1024x768)

i also have lots of pigment inks in gorgeous rich, creamy colors – Mix’d Media Inx from Clearsnap…

ccc - mmi (1024x768)

as well as some specialty inks from Aladine, distributed by Clearsnap, Izinks – which are a hybrid mix of ink and paint and come in beautiful shimmery colors…

ccc - izink (1024x768)

you’ll also learn how to hand-dye vintage seam binding to use on your canvas too…

ccc - ribbon (1024x768)

you’ll  get to select accent ribbons, jute and cording as well as vintage trinkets and treasures to use to embellish and customize your canvas. i’ll have other embellishments to select from, so if keys and tape measures aren’t your thing, you can choose something else.

the class lasts 4 1/2 hours, so you’ll have lots of time to work on your project.

there is also a crop that night, and i’ll be hosting it! so you can plan to come and play all day if you like.

the crop will be from 5:00 to 11:00 and is $10. but if you sign up and pay by wednesday, november 5, you’ll get a $5 coupon that you can use to shop with crop night!

if you have unfinished “tami” projects like altered books, photoFULL or money $aving layout classes, bring them and i’ll be glad to help you with them. {if you want to work on an altered book, if you’ll use the contact me form at the top and let me know which book, i may be able to bring the sample book.}

an altered canvas makes a great gift, and the holidays are right around the corner! so keep gifting in mind when contemplating what photo and theme you would like to do.

Clearsnap and Walnut Hollow Blog Hop

WH+Clearsnap-Blog-Hop-FB (1)

hi! welcome to the CLEARSNAP and WALNUT HOLLOW Blog Hop!!!

Walnut Hollow has lots of great blank, wood surfaces just waiting for you to embellish! and Clearsnap has plenty of inks and more to help you do just that! hop along with the Clearsnap and Walnut Hollow Designers to see how they transformed their pieces into some fabulous projects!

here is the list for the hop, you should have come here from Suzanne’s blog, and you’ll be heading to Sara’s blog after your visit here. if you jumped in somewhere other than the start, please head back to the Clearsnap Blog to hop from the beginning…

Clearsnap Blog

Chris Wallace

for my project, i selected the RUSTIC PANEL and 1 1/2″ WOODEN LETTERS from Walnut Hollow. i wanted to make a gift for my mom-in-law using a recent family photo. here’s a pic of my finished project…

walnut hollow family wood panel - WM

i first used gesso to add a background pattern to the pallet using a stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop. then i used ColorBox Archival Dye Ink Refill Bottles in Mudslide, Mermaid and Glacier Lake, diluted with water, to stain the panels. i liked how the gessoed areas took on the colors of the dye inks applied over them. i thought it was a little more interesting than stenciling over the dye inks, which would have resulted in just a white pattern.

the quote was added using Colorbox Crafter’s Ink in Bark and Aruba and Jasmine Mix’d Media Inx embossed with ColorBox White Embossing Ink. stamps are from The {Stamps} of Life.

a little Topaz Izink was blended in some gesso to use to paint the “family” letters.

to add more “texture” to the letters, a swirl stamp {from Paper Wing Productions} was used to stamp first in Bark and then in Aruba Crafter’s Inks.

the photo was matted on white cardstock, distressed using Aruba Crafter’s Ink, and then on Kraft Corrugate Paper {Fancy Pants} distressed using Chestnut Roan Chalk Ink.

flowers, rhinestones, pearls, baker’s twine, ribbon and junque jewelry finish off the piece.

i put together a Snapguide for this project; it has a complete supply list as well as step-by-step photos and written directions…

Check out this guide on Snapguide

thank you for stopping by! enjoy the rest of the hop! be sure to enter to win some goodies on the Clearsnap Blog!

Clearsnap & Fancy Pants Blog Hop

Hello! For the next few days Fancy Pants and Clearsnap are having a BLOG HOP! LOTS of great projects with LOTS of great products!

Check the CLEARSNAP BLOG and the FANCY PANTS BLOG for previews and links to the blogs of participating designers…

Hi! Tami Sanders here, welcome to my blog!

The project I made was a banner featuring my 3 handsome boys – my 2 sons and my hubbie – using goodies from Fancy Pants and Clearsnap.

I wanted a smaller scale banner that I could hang in my studio and the size of the Fancy Pants embellies and letters worked really well.

I loved the Corrugate Paper and decided it would be perfect for the base of banner and assorted Fancy Pants embellies were used to dress up the piece…

take a look at the banner – finished size is just a little under 24″ if you lay it out straight…

home banner _ clearsnap_fancy pants_dye ink_spritz_sprays_colorbox spritzers_altered banner_tami sanders - wm

The flag banner pieces were cut from the Kraft Corrugated Paper and measure about 4 X 6. I used the ColorBox Stylus & Tips to ink the raised areas using Jasmine Mix’d Media Ink. The edges were distressed using Chestnut Roan and Charcoal Cat’s Eye Chalk Inks

home banner _ clearsnap_fancy pants_dye ink_spritz_sprays_colorbox spritzers_altered banner_tami sanders - rob (682x1024)     home banner _ clearsnap_fancy pants_dye ink_spritz_sprays_colorbox spritzers_altered banner_tami sanders - drew (683x1024)     home banner _ clearsnap_fancy pants_dye ink_spritz_sprays_colorbox spritzers_altered banner_tami sanders - chris (682x1024)

The rounded banner pieces were made using the White Corrugated Paper and measure about 3 X 4. I placed them in the Color Catcher and sprayed them with assorted inks: Bubblegum Premium Sprays!, and ColorBox Spritzers in Lemon Drop, Mermaid and Pumpkin Pie. I thought those colors complimented the Fancy Pants embellies and papers. The edges were distressed using Chestnut Roan Cat’s Eye Chalk Ink

home banner _ clearsnap_fancy pants_dye ink_spritz_sprays_colorbox spritzers_altered banner_tami sanders - cu letter (683x1024)

Now that the base of the banner was done, it was time to DRESS IT UP! I started by printing 2 X 3 photos {be sure to add a frame or cut them out a little larger} which fit perfectly in the windows of the As You WishPatterned Photo Frames.  The edges were distressed using Chestnut Roan Cat’s Eye Chalk Ink then I laid them out on the kraft banner flags.

Next came the larger embellishments, I liked the happy little sentiments found in the “Burlap & Bouquets” Ephemera Pack. So I added them to the sides of the framed photos, overlapping the edges of the banner pieces.

Then I layered on some smaller embellies from the Ephemera Pack, like the arrows and feathers. And more is better right? So on went a few of the stickers from the Burlap & Bouquets Label Sticker Sheet.

It was time to add the sentiment to this banner, so I picked out the “Burlap & Bouquets” Burlap Alpha Stickers. Not happy to ever leave any surface uninked, I placed the letters I wanted to use “HOME” on waxed paper and stamped with with tiny stars {from Viva Las Vegas’ Pound O’ Rubber} using Black Surfacez Ink. I thought the letters needed some “grounding” before adding them to the rounded banner pieces, so I punched circles from the 6 X 6 Me-ology Paper Pad and added the letters to the centers.

The rounded banner pieces still seemed a little “naked”, so I cut lopsided triangles from “As You Wish” Dictionary Printed Paper. The triangles were inked using Prussian Blue Cat’s Eye Chalk Ink and the circles with Chestnut Roan before being adhered to the banner pieces.

I used brads to link all the pieces together and thought it looked good – but could use just a “little” more embellishing! So I found the “Everyday Circus” Button Set and added a few for the finishing touch!

Then all that was left was to punch holes in the ends and add cord for hanging.

i hope you enjoyed this project! Keep on hopping for MORE great projects from the very talented Fancy Pants and Clearsnap Designers!

entries close on monday may 6, 2013 at 12:00am…

hi! welcome to my blog!

i have a layout to share with you that features LOTS, and LOTS of inks and more from ClearSnap as well as several techniques. my layout started with 1 sheet of white cardstock, scrap kraft cardstock, manila tags, raw chipboard pieces, and some ribbon, twine and bits from my stash.

my challenge to myself was to turn plain unadorned pieces and papers into a colorful, collaged, nature-themed layout.

here’s the finished layout…

my boys -boy page,nature layout, scrapbook layout,clearsnap,colorbox,pigment ink,mixed media,mixd media inx,chalk ink,heat embossing,collaged page,tami sanders -lo (1024x990)

the white cardstock background was transformed into a bright, blue “sky”, by lightly spritzing it with Sea Kiss Smooch Spritz at the upper left and lower right hand corners, then filling in with ColorBox Sprays! in Sky. the combo of the aqua toned spritz and blue spray makes a very pretty sky, plus you get just a touch of shimmer from the spritz…

my boys -boy page,nature layout, scrapbook layout,clearsnap,colorbox,pigment ink,mixed media,mixd media inx,chalk ink,heat embossing,collaged page,tami sanders - sky (1024x684)

next, i wanted to add some tone on tone images to make the background more interesting, so i used the Rollagraph and Jumbo Say What? Stamping Wheel along with ColorBox Stephanie Barnard Premium Dye Ink in Sky to add a very subtle script pattern

and Mermaid ColorBox Archival Dye Ink was used to stamp some aqua dragonflies …

my boys -boy page,nature layout, scrapbook layout,clearsnap,colorbox,pigment ink,mixed media,mixd media inx,chalk ink,heat embossing,collaged page,tami sanders -script (1024x683)

then the leaf pattern was added using Mint ColorBox Pigment Ink, which was heat set…

my boys -boy page,nature layout, scrapbook layout,clearsnap,colorbox,pigment ink,mixed media,mixd media inx,chalk ink,heat embossing,collaged page,tami sanders - stamped leaves (1024x713)

and a distressed design was added at the right side of the page to balance the leaves using ColorBox Chalk Ink in Chestnut Roan. a handy tip here to avoid having sharp edges when stamping a design like this is to only partially ink the stamp. this is easy to do using the ColorBox Stylus & Tips tool…

my boys -boy page,nature layout, scrapbook layout,clearsnap,colorbox,pigment ink,mixed media,mixd media inx,chalk ink,heat embossing,collaged page,tami sanders - distress (1024x683)

the edges of the background page were inked using both Chestnut Roan and French Blue Chalk Inks.

with the background done, it was time to move onto embellishing! i started with the photos, they were matted in kraft cardstock and the edges were inked using French Blue Chalk Ink. next, they needed a background to “rest” on, so i took a piece of kraft cardstock, added a pattern using the Rollagraph and Jumbo Mixed Dot Design Wheel with Watermark Ink. the design was embossed using Top Boss Clear Embossing Powder, then when cooled, was sprayed lightly with ColorBox Sprays! in Artichoke

my boys -boy page,nature layout, scrapbook layout,clearsnap,colorbox,pigment ink,mixed media,mixd media inx,chalk ink,heat embossing,collaged page,tami sanders - dot bg (1024x683)

the manila tags were spritzed using Sea Kiss Smooch Spritz, then when dry, were stamped using Chalk and Pigment Inks. using several types of inks in layers produces an interesting contrast. for this tag, the clock was stamped with Chestnut Roan Chalk Ink, the watch in Mint Pigment Ink and the sentiment using Iris Pigment Ink which was embossed using Top Boss Clear Embossing Powder. a good hint when layering inks like this is to heat set as you go – especially if you plan on embossing a layer, otherwise, the embossing powder will stick to any ink that is still wet…

my boys -boy page,nature layout, scrapbook layout,clearsnap,colorbox,pigment ink,mixed media,mixd media inx,chalk ink,heat embossing,collaged page,tami sanders - tag (932x1024)

the border under the photos was made using the Rollagraph and Standard Design Wheel in the Chinese Noodles Pattern. one of my favorite things to do with the Rollagraph is to roll multiple images with it, sometimes in different colors as was done here. the design was rolled once using ColorBox Premium Dye Ink in Sky, then again using ColorBox Archival Dye Ink in Moody Blue

my boys -boy page,nature layout, scrapbook layout,clearsnap,colorbox,pigment ink,mixed media,mixd media inx,chalk ink,heat embossing,collaged page,tami sanders - scroll border (1024x683)

the raw chipboard leaves were first inked using Mint Pigment Ink, then after heat setting, the script design was added and embossed using the Jumbo Say What? Design Wheel, Patina Mix’d Media Inx and Top Boss Embossing Powder. a little distressing around the edges using Chestnut Roan Chalk Ink finishes them off…

my boys -boy page,nature layout, scrapbook layout,clearsnap,colorbox,pigment ink,mixed media,mixd media inx,chalk ink,heat embossing,collaged page,tami sanders - leaves (1024x683)

some baker’s twine and a charm finish off the layout…

my boys -boy page,nature layout, scrapbook layout,clearsnap,colorbox,pigment ink,mixed media,mixd media inx,chalk ink,heat embossing,collaged page,tami sanders - charm (1024x683)

i used a LOT of different products and a LOT of different techniques on this layout, but don’t feel you have to do the same! pick and choose what you like best and what works for YOUR layout! but the next time you can’t find “that perfect paper” for your project, think about making it YOURSELF!

hello! thanks for hopping with us today!

my project is an altered canvas; a gift for a friend who just had a baby girl. i started with Momenta’s Creative Canvas. the premade designs were adorable – but designed for a baby BOY! so I decided to alter the canvas using some pretty papers and cardstocks from Momenta jazzed up with inks and more from Clearsnap.

here’s the finished project…

i altered the script paper by using Schoolhouse and Vintage Mix’d Media Inx applied using the Stylus & Tip and CHL Cardmaking Template from Momenta…

and Chiffon Mix’d Media Inx and coordinating Embossing Powder to alter this printed paper…

Smooch Spritzes in Spun Sugar and Cashmere  and Sprays! in Strawberry were used to spritz printed papers, flowers, lace and ribbons. and Pralines and Cream Fairy Dust Glitter adds some pretty shimmer…

a few tiny touches, like a beautiful pearl head pin and hanging crystal and a safety pin with a tiny tag add  to the piece…

a frame, that was part of the embellishment pack for the canvas, was covered in kraft paper, then a design was added using Leather Mix’d Media Inx and the Momenta stencil…

a few pearl swirls and a name added with some vintage letter cards provided the finishing touches…

NOW… on to your next stop! scan down the list to the link marked “GO HERE NEXT”. all the links are listed just in case you are jumping in at the middle or get lost along the way. enjoy the rest of the hop!
