my neice talia is visiting us this week and she is a krafty kid who likes to scrapbook and play with paper, glue and bLiNg!
i had made a canvas collage for my sister-in-law, talia’s mom, for mother’s day and talia wanted to make something like it to decorate her locker at school….
{this project was posted on the Clearsnap Blog on 5/8/2013: Home & Family Canvas Collage – you can find the complete supplies and general project directions there.}
talia started with a base coat of some light colors of ColorBox Pigment Ink as a backdrop for her canvas. using the ColorBox Stylus & Tips made inking the canvas easier and a lot less messy! the inks were then given a few swipes and smudges with a clean paper towel to blend the colors together at the edges.
talia then chose some templates from The Crafter’s Workshop to use to add MORE depth to her background. ColorBox Stylus & Tips were again used to apply the ink.
after the inks dried, talia then diecut some glitter paper using dies from Spellbinders and layered them with some 3D stickers.
Zip Dry from Beacon is a VERY forgiving glue as any excess “ooze” can be cleaned up quickly and easily so it’s a good choice for kids over age 8 or so {and those of us over 8 who are messy crafters!} and since talia is a little older, i let her use Beacon’s 3-in-1 glue as well as it is GREAT for trims, flowers and embellies. it is a quick grab glue, so it works fast!
flowers, rhinestones, glitter chipboard letters and some trims were added and a ribbon for hanging was the finishing touch.
here are some pics of the process and the finished project…
there’s still time to crank out a few craft items with your kiddos before summer is O-FFICIALLY OVER :(
and decor for their lockers or embellishing bland and boring folders and notebooks for back to school are great project ideas!
