by the sea projects - blog - wm

i also finalized the details for the class…

DATE: saturday, july 12

TIME: frame – 12:00 to 1:30 and book – 1:30 to 5:00

COST: frame – $20 and book – $45

receive a $5 discount if you take both classes – only $60

i’ve also added all the class info and supply lists also {see right sidebar}.

please drop by Scrapbook n’ More if you would like to see these samples in person – and plan to SHOP while you are there! susan has been getting BOXES and BOXES of new stuff in! lots of great, fun summer papers, tons of stamping supplies and more! she has also extended her cardstock selection. she is literally having trouble trying to put all the NEW! stuff out – so help her out by buying some of it!

Scrapbook n’ More is easy to get to from San Antonio, just take IH35 north, exit at 189, take the turn around and stay in the left hand lane. the road actually runs into the shopping center {the one with the new alamo drafthouse} head towards the right, the store sign is hidden until you go up aways.

thanks to all of you who took the time to respond about these 2 classes, it really helped me gauge the interest level and be able to order supplies accordingly! please call Scrapbook n’ More at 830-214-1690 for more info or to sign up.

i have also set the date for the HALLOWEEN ALTERED BOOK CLASSplease save the datesaturday, august 2 from 12:00 to 5:00. i’ll be using G45’s EERIE TALES line, based on grimm’s fairy tales. papers should be in soon, and i’m expecting to have the sample done by the end of june at the latest.

“by the sea” d-constructed altered book & frame”

some of you have been asking what i am up to…

i’ve been busy with projects for the Clearsnap catalog and blog, the TCW design team, projects using a new product from Grafix, my monthly classes, gifts for friends and a new “secret” venture i can’t talk about yet — and THIS…

by the sea projects - blog - wm

my hubbie and i recently went to port aransas for our anniversary. we had a great time – despite the PILES of seaweed on the beach with more and more coming in with the tide! while battling the seaweed, we started picking up a few shells and some pretty broken bits. i thought the shells would be great to use for a summer beach class, so we picked up a LOT. i hadn’t seen any new beach paper lines, but knew just what i wanted – something with white, aqua and tan – and Susan at Scrapbook n’ More had just ordered JUST the thing i had in mind – Prima’s Seashore line.

the frame base is nice and heavy and we’ll be embellishing it with papers, rope, glitter/glass bead gel and pretty shells…

by the sea frame - blog - we

the book is a D-Constructed altered book – we’ll be tearing up a book and putting it back together in a different way! the hard part of the DIS-assembly will already be done for you so you can concentrate on the fun part! the book contains 8 actual pages – so you’ll have 16 pages {front and back} to add your photos and journaling. and just like with my altered books, there are a few flaps and pockets to create. this project is a little easier than my other altered book classes, so if you were wanting to try one, this one would be great to start with! but don’t worry if you are a “regular” in my altered book classes, i think you will still enjoy this one and find new challenges and techniques.

the book is done in neutrals with pops of aqua, think sand, sea and sky! added textures from rope, burlap, shimmery “smooched” tags and hand dyed vintage rayon ribbons.  lots of fun small embellies to add just the right touch. the book is not over embellished though – to let your great beach photos SHINE! this would be great for black and white or sepia photos too. the cover is embellished with shells, chipboard letters and some shimmer from glitter/glass bead gel…

i’ll have more info for you tomorrow – i’m dropping the samples off at Scrapbook n’ More and setting the deets tomorrow afternoon.

if you are interested in these classes, drop me an e-mail or please plan to sign up fast. i am not sure how soon we need to order supplies – Prima has a “while supplies last” notation. so we may not be able to add spots if the classes fill.

and as for other upcoming classes, it sounds like there is enough interest to do both a halloween and a christmas altered book this year – thanks for all the input. so i am awaiting the arrival of G45’s AN EERIE TALE in order to get started on the halloween book! as soon as i can set a date for it, i’ll let you know!

stamp antonio closing… sad news…

i just received the following e-mail from amy and carol, owners of stamp antonio…

Adios Amigos

Our retail adventure has been a thrilling roller coaster ride — awesome customers, new friends, a terrific staff, wonderul instructors, amazing art experiences and plenty of long hours with a hearty dose of blood, sweat and tears.

Now we’re ready to move into a new phase of our lives — one with more time for family, travel and personal artistic adventures, so we are closing Stamp Antonio Arts effective March 1, 2014.

This is an incredibly bittersweet decision for us, but we believe that when one door closes another one opens and we’re excited to move to a slower-paced, less stressful, family focused lifestyle.

Please do not forget that we care so much for all of you. You have added to our lives and we will continue to hold you close in our hearts. We also hope that you will continue to foster a creative atmosphere for yourselves and each other.

We’ll miss you,
Carol and Amy

Here’s what you’ll want to know

Effective Tuesday, January 28:

All in-store merchandise will be 40% off.

All current merchandise orders will be cancelled and no new special orders will be taken or placed.

All classes are cancelled except the weekly and monthly classes for January and February: Tempting Project Tuesday, Tantalizing Techniques, All About Series, Bookbinding, Money$aving$ketches/PhotoFULL and Pergamano.

25% discount coupons will no longer be honored.

New stamp bucks will not be issued, but previously issued stamp bucks can still be used with purchases.

i can’t begin to tell you how saddened i am; carol, amy and the staff at stamp antonio have become friends over the years, and i’ve greatly enjoyed being able to teach classes for them.

this marks the closing of the last independent brick and mortar stamp/scrapbook store here in san antonio. it is hard for small stores to compete with the lure of big box stores and their 40% off coupons. but you will never get the personal touch at mike’s, hl or j’s. you’ll be lucky if they can even direct you to the papercraft product you are looking for. and they probably won’t be able to tell you about the product, and they certainly won’t help you with design advice. these are all things that you can only get at small, independent stores. you can’t touch or feel papers and tools that you buy online before you purchase them, you can’t hold up papers or embellishments from different lines to see what matches and what doesn’t. and if you like taking classes in person with hands of instructors, they will be harder to find as well.

even the “bigger” independent guys are failing; archiver’s are closing around the country.

when you weigh the quality of all you get at independent stores versus big box stores, somehow those coupons don’t hold as much appeal. stores can’t make it if all they are able to sell is $1 papers, while a large majority of customers go elsewhere to purchase tools, inks and accessories at a discount.

i’m not sure what this will mean to me as an instructor at this moment, it’s too much to contemplate right now.

but i would suggest that we all try to support the only 2 remaining scrapbook related businesses in the area:

Scrapbook N’ More:

651 N Business IH 35 Ste 410, New Braunfels, TX 78130, (830) 214-1690, http://www.scrapbooknmore.net

susan has a nice large store and workroom. the stock is kept fresh by timed arrivals of new product. the staff in friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. susan also keeps an assortment of interesting classes on her schedule. watch her facebook page to view new product arrivals.

The Scrapbooking Factory:
jane holds monthly retreats where a limited amount of merchandise is sold. but jane has an eye for putting together collections and embellishments that coordinate, so you’ll find enough product to keep you happy. she also has a booth at Craftiques Mall on NW Military.

another resource you might consider is joining is the Meetup Group: San Antonio Scrapbooking headed up by Victoria Tovar. they keep a full calender of free crops as well as class offerings. dues are only $6 a year.

the february PhotoFull and Money $aving classes at stamp antonio will be held as scheduled.

my vintage Christmas collection…

i hope you are all enjoying the holiday season and are making your lists, shopping and indulging in some holiday treats!

i was adding a new project to the Clearsnap Blog and i mentioned my vintage Christmas collection. i thought i’d post some pictures of my treasures here.

i have SO many items in this collection that my house isn’t big enough to put it all out anymore, so i have to pick and choose the best and brightest.

i try to create separate little vignettes: angels, elves and santas and snowmen with a few of my handcrafted items mixed in…

retreat anyone?

i’ve had some great feedback on the new class as well as the proposed retreat; thanks to everyone who took the time to reply!

i’ve also had a chance to gather some more info about retreat spaces and pricing. i’ve found 2 retreat locations that are not too-too far away {click on the links for more photos and info}…

Texas Scrapbook Cabin in Sequin…

and Lone Star Retreat Center in Georgetown…

pricing would be about the same for either location, but meals would be provided for us at the Lone Star Retreat Center, while i’d have to cook for you at the Texas Scrapbook Cabin.

here’s what i’m thinking, and this is just a VERY rough idea… i would like for there to be cropping friday night, then 2 classes on saturday; morning and early afternoon, then cropping saturday night and more cropping until you leave on sunday. there are early arrivals and late departure options to explore, but both places offer roughly the same time frame – friday evening until sunday early afternoon.

the retreat would be all inclusive: 2 nights stay, meals, 2 classes and cropping, plus some bonus goodies. the cost would be around $275-$325, and that is just a rough estimate as well. i think i can get the best price if i have a group of 10 -12.

now that i’ve got the deets about the locations… i’d like to post some polls to get info from YOU!

if you have friends you think might be interested in attending a retreat, please forward them THIS LINK to this post so they can vote as well.

first classes of 2013!

i’d like to give you some info on some upcoming classes for the new year…

a new monthly class has been added to my calendar; we’ll give it a try and see how it goes!

it’s called crop’n with tami and will be held on the 3rd or 4th Thursday of the month at Stamp Antonio. the first class is scheduled for thursday, january 24 from 10:30 to 1:30.

i’ve been asked about doing a class where i help you work on your own layouts, along the lines of an assisted crop, giving you layout and embellishment ideas. enough of you have asked enough times that i’ve decided to try out the idea for a new class for 2013.

i will bring my sketches for past photo-full and money $aving classes, as well as other sketch books and layout ideas for you to use. i will also bring supplies that will be free for use that may vary each month, like stamps and inks, spritzes, alphabets, etc.

although the class is “officially” 3 hours, you can remain and crop until Stamp Antonio closes at 6:00 as long as there is no other class scheduled on that particular day. the cost of the crop is $12. the longevity of this class will depend on attendance.

if you are interested in signing up, please call Stamp Antonio at 210-764-7900.

i have also scheduled a valentine’s day décor project – amoure décor – at Scrapbook N’ More on sunday, january 20 from 2:00 to 4:00. the project features Reminisce’s new line My Sweet Valentine

amoure decor collage

the project also features inks and more from Clearsnap and trinkets from my vintage and not so vintage stash! you can also check out the sample at Scrapbook N’ More. cost for this class is $25.

please call Scrapbook N’ More at 830-214-1690 to sign up or for more info; space for this class is very limited; so please call early!

i am poking around for “inspiration” for the next altered book class – i had my heart set on Valentine’s, but that may not pan out. i’m awaiting the sneak peek of graphic 45’s Secret Garden line; i haven’t done a spring/garden book yet!

i am also looking into hosting a fall retreat: classes by day, cropping by night with lodging and food included.

any input about these or future classes or the fall retreat, would be GREATLY appreciated! i am especially interested in hearing whether or not YOU would be interested in the retreat!

thanks for your interest!

vintage calendar box class…

i have a new class to announce – i’ve finished the project that i posted a “teaser” about the other day…

i found some fabulously shabby little white boxes during my trip to canton, i thought they would be perfect for some type of calendar project, but didn’t have anything definite in mind.

BUT, graphic 45 MUST have read my mind as they released their “place in time” collection shortly afterward! perfect timing!

here’s a look at the finished “vintage calendar box”…

the box includes 12 sets of the following, one set for each month:

  • tag with monthly calendar
  • “day-by-day” booklet for jotting down the days events
  • birthday calendar – to list friends and family b-days
  • birthday gift list – to keep track of gift ideas and purchases
  • “offers” envelope for coupons and gift cards

in addition to papers and embellies from Graphic 45’s “place in time” line, there are lots of items from my vintage stash.  there are also custom made items i designed just for this project using vintage ephemera from my collection.

and although the box is labeled as 2013, you can use it year after year. the dates on the calendar tags are in pencil, so they can be refreshed each year. and i’ll provide the class a master copy of the vintage office papers for the “day-by-day” booklet.

this would make a fabulously thoughtful gift for the holidays – if you can part with it! and since the class is early in december, you’ll have plenty of time to finish it and get it wrapped or shipped of if you are gifting it.

the class will be held at Stamp Antonio on sunday, december 2 from 12:00 to 4:00; cost is $55.

if you are interested in this class, please call Stamp Antonio at 210-764-7900. space for this class is VERY limited as i only have 12 boxes. there may be a possibility of getting more made, but that is NOT definite.

this class, along with the two classes i am teaching at Scrapbook N’ More in new braunfels will be the last 3 specialty classes i’ll be teaching til next year.

the two classes at Scrapbook N’ More will both be held on saturday, december 1…

countdown 2 christmas: a countdown calendar featuring papers by Bo Bunny, inks and more from Clearsnap, ephemera from Gecko Galz, vintage yardsticks and lots of goodies from my vintage stash…

and fabulous finds pendant and necklace class: you’ll create a one-of-a kind fashion piece that will be uniquely your own to gift or keep. you’ll have access to tons of jewelry bits vintage and new from “broken-but-beautiful” pieces, watch parts, charms and more…

if you are interested in either of these classes, please contact Scrapbook N’ More at {830} 214-1690 for more info or to sign up.

classes at Stamp Antonio tomorrow… 4/5

i’ll be having both my money $aving $ketches class and photoFull classes at Stamp Antonio tomorrow. remember that you can take one or both classes in either the morning session or the evening session.

please bring the following with you in addition to your basic kit:

money $aving $ketches: 4 cardstocks for background, 2 cardstocks for mats and 2 printed papers. also bring: 2 sets of 8-10 photos that coordinate, or 1 set of 16-20 photos of the same event. mix of vertical and horizontal photos and some should be croppable. you may not use all your photos, but bringing more than you need will allow you to pick and chose those that will work best.

photoFull: 2 cardstocks for background, 2 cardstocks for mats, 2 printed papers and 1 set of 25+ photos –  mostly horizontal, with a few croppable.

thanks! see ya tomorrow!
